INXS / Live Baby Live: Wembley Stadium

Wembley show’s audio remixed for new 2CD or 3LP sets • Concert film restored to Ultra HD 4K for theatrical run with Dolby Atmos soundtrack
The soundtrack to INXS‘ Live Baby Live Wembley Stadium show, on 13 July 1991, has been newly remixed and will be issued on 3LP vinyl and 2CD in November.
Live Baby Live: Wembley Stadium captures the memorable performance and features the hits ‘Need You Tonight‘, ‘New Sensation‘, ‘Devil Inside‘ – a previously thought ‘lost’ track ‘Lately’ from the album ‘X’ – and many more.
Speaking about this show, INXS’ Garry Gary Beers remembers “The whole band was on fire that night but especially at our ‘pointy end’ – Michael was so good as he sang his heart out and gave every person in the crowd a night to remember for all time. He truly had that amazing ability to make the biggest shows as intimate as the pubs we grew up in musically”.
Unlike the original Live Baby Live album (from 1991), which took its audio from various shows from that tour, this new release is the soundtrack to this one performance at Wembley, with the audio newly remixed by Giles Martin & Sam Okell at Abbey Road Studios.
Both vinyl and CD formats feature unseen imagery from the show, new essays from the band and sleeve notes by broadcaster and uber INXS fan Jamie East, who was in the crowd that day.
These physical audio releases coincide with a new theatrical presentation of the original Live Baby Live concert film. The film has been restored from the original 35mm negative to Ultra HD 4K. I was lucky enough to get a preview of this earlier in the year and can confirm that it’s stunningly good. They’ve actually converted 4:3 to 16:9 with careful shot-by-shot reframing, for the full cinematic experience. The audio for the film will be in Dolby Atmos (again by Giles Martin and Sam Okell).
The Live Baby Live concert film will be in cinemas in Australia and New Zealand from November 14, North and South America from December 9, and in the UK on November 27. Check INXScinema.com for local listings. The Live Baby Live: Wembley Stadium vinyl and CD sets will be issued on 15 November 2019.

[…] Baby Live, INXS‘ incredible 1991 live show at Wembley Stadium was issued last year on audio formats, but next month will finally be released on blu-ray and DVD, and the good news is […]
There’s blu-ray and 4K UHD releases listed on a couple of European websites showing release date of 10 April 2020, so it can’t be too long before we see an official announcement.
4/10 has come and gone….WHERE IS THIS FREAKING BLU-RAY!?!?!?
Will the full concert (like on CD/Vinyl) be released on DVD/Blu-ray soon? I find it hard that it won’t be. The record company and the remaining members of INXS would lose out on too much money.
The highlights show over the Christmas period blew me away! It was on BBC Two. I’ve still got it.
…elegantly wasted is the best INXS album and one of rocks best ever.
Is there a misprint or is ‘Original Sin’ not included??? It was played right after ‘Hear That Sound’ and before ‘Lately’.
I received my copy of this today and ‘Original Sin’ is listed in its proper place.
Why is original sin, not on the cd release?
It’s on the Australian release according to jbhifi.com.au
I enjoy INXS and hope for the reissue of b-sides and remixes, but this is one album of theirs that I had bought (the original version, not the new version) and was not impressed. For an album that was culled from different shows (for the original version), there didn’t seem to be much spontaneity or creativity in presenting each song (with a few exceptions), which made me think that they went for something clean, sanitized, and “most true to the familiar version” of each performance.
The idea of hearing this tour remixed and all from a single concert is enough to intrigue me, though. Good luck, I hope it turns out great!
The original CD release was a mish-mash of lots of different gigs all over the world. It was always different to the VHS recording which was just the Wembley gig.
Molly Meldrum in Australia ripped into INXS and their management at the time, as it was outed that the live cd was overdubbed (due to certain missing audio stems for some instruments). I found the cd terribly boring anyway.
The video was excellent, and that’s what we will be seeing in remastered form, here.
Paul…are the other Inxs albums (apart from Kick) going to be coming out on deluxe editions soon?
Paul please have a word in someone’s ear that this might make for a great first foray into 4K Ultra HD for Eagle Rock for a home release with that Atmos track. Cheers!
Looking forward to the 4K digital video release sometime in the future or BluRay. Interesting that the previously unreleased “Lately” has been restored for the audio and hopefully video release. Funny enough, I was at the original concert premiere video release party here in my city, back in the day…
Why have the uploaded the lowest resolution video to youtube to promote a 4k movie release? Bizzare choice.
I had the original (1992?) box set which contained the cd, VHS video and a 12” booklet. I have no clue where they have gone. The box didn’t last long but I had the CD and booklet for many years.
I remember enjoying this and “X” is a favourite of mine so it’s a definite yes from me, albeit CD and not vinyl.
Jbhifi in Australia have the preorder link up with all the details. New track is there, as is original sin

Definite purchase for me. Worth it alone for the version of “What you need” where the band are white hot milking the crowd. I never really loved “X” as an album, the sound of a band treading water though an ok listen. The best was yet to come with the follow up! November & December are going to cost me a lot of money Paul…
BluRay 8K version? Gentlemens please?
Wheres business?(we talk clear)
Salutes from Lima, PERU.
Think you can only hope and pray for a 4K UHD BD-disc… 8K is not yet an official videoformat (nor will it ever be?).
Wonder if the eventual video release will include the extras from the 2003 release or offer up new/additional ones.
Original DVD from 2003 has the following:
Wembley Excess – 40 Minute Behind The Scenes Documentary
– 5:1 and stereo mixes
– New band interviews
– Backstage footage
– ‘Talk Baby Talk’
– Photo Gallery
– Band Commentary
It’s always annoying when the extras are dropped from reissues (the Kick 25 vs 30 box set DVD vs Blu-Ray being an example, same with REM’s upcoming Monster reissue not including the documentary from the 2005 CD/DVD-A release).
Paul you need to change the date at the top of your text to 13th July 1991.
Now 9.99 for 2cd on amazon UK
I hope when the film comes out that they get the picture ratio right. I bought the DVD re-issue from 2014 – ‘claimed’ to be digitally remastered and in 16:9 wide-screen, but ended up looking no better than my previous copy and still in 4:3! If it wasn’t for the slightly different bonus features, I’d have sworn I’d been diddled with an older disc.
According to an interview with Richard Lowenstein who made the 2019 documentary Mystify: Michael Hutchence & many of the INXS videos his daughter Tiger Lily receives nothing from her fathers estate & never has. So please keep this in mind before purchasing INXS music. Thank you.
The link to the French CD lists Original Sin, and Lately on there (the full 22 track setlist in fact). So maybe the UK version will include it after all, would be bizarre not to
Paul, what happened to that interview you mentioned was coming with their manager where you brought up the topic other reissues like non Kick albums & Max Q?
cheers
It’s coming soon.
+1 for this…
What about this release on Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray soon?
Oh scratch that. They did. :-)
Okay… just seen this comment, having answered the first one :)
Maybe I’m a purist or perfectionist but the complete Wembley show should of had an extra name attached [i.e “Live Baby Live at Wembley”] as I’m sure most INXS fans want to distinguish between the original version with tracks from multiple and this single venue and most or all of them will keep both editions.
It does have the words “Wembley Stadium” on the front, which surely tells you this isn’t a concert from multiple venues.
It does :’D
I’m a bit baffled by the need for Dolby Atmos in a concert movie unless the fans were attaching their bottles of piss to fireworks instead of just throwing them? There was nothing above the crowd’s heads at Wembley, only sky, so why have sound effects up there?
On a more serious note, I hope this gets released on 4K Blu-ray, but I can see it just ending up on CrApple TV where I’ll never get to see it…
Uh, cos sound does travel upwards too…
Looking forward to this. I normally don’t like live concert DVD’s set in giant stadiums but this one is the exception due to Hutchence. He made that giant place seem like an intimate show by how engaged the audience was with his monumental performance.
Height of their commercial success, but the best albums were still to come – Welcome and New Moon. Can’t wait for these to get the remastered Abbey Road vinyl treatment. Must be a fair amount of archive material around this era too for deluxe sets. Hopefully sometime soon.
I’m not sure ‘Full Moon, Dirty Hearts’ could be described as one of their best albums.
I don’t think ‘Full Moon’ is one of their best albums, but its one of my favourites. I think its one of those albums which are done pretty quickly and are almost a bit throwaway but sees them sounding very fresh and different. See also Zooropa by U2 and New Adventures in Hi-Fi by REM. Again, two albums which aren’t considered to be the “best” from those artists but I love them.
Weird that they would add the one song that was missing from the original (even covered up in the set list shown in the book) but remove a song that had been there all along. Looking forward to this as I was actually thinking about this earlier this year to replace my VHS copy
Lately is a brilliant track, my fave on X, good to hear live at last. Thieves and Welcome deluxes next please!
I was there too – great show by INXS and all the bands who played that day.
The gig was known as SummerXS 13th July 1991, exactly 6 years to the day after LiveAid.
Apparently ‘Original Sin’ was dropped from the 2014 version (“Live at Wembley Stadium ’91” 2 CD on Petrol). As you note above ‘Lately’ was added (appears in the same place in the tracklisting). The prior release also had the studio version of ‘Shining Star’ on it. Good to know the Blu-Ray release won’t also include the CDs.
Well spotted, why can’t we have the whole concert.
First concert I ever went to, didn’t realise how important it was at the time…
No, original sin was on the 2014 Petrol 2 CD set
To be honest it’s not a great live recording. Don’t get me wrong I saw Inxs many times live in concert in the 80s in my home town of Melbourne and they were amazing but this concert live recording is and was bland and boring
Damn. And I thought the sound in the above video sounded great!
This was one of my favourite PAL Laserdiscs back in the old days. It looked and sounded fantastic back them. I’ve small Atmos system (5.1.2) but no 4K projector yet. It might just be time to upgrade. Can someone please let my wife know?
For the last couple of months, the bbfc ratings for releases…has the INXS Wembley concert with a release date as the 25 October..they are usually always right..wonder what else it could be.. it’s under the video format…
The blu-ray isn’t coming out before the theatrical screenings. How would that make any sense? It hasn’t been announced and I’m hearing next year…
Yeah I agree, the bbfc must have the wrong date..we shall see, it doesn’t make sense..they haven’t changed the date yet on the site as of today..
I’ll wait for the Blu Ray with surround sound. Weird that they would not release the CD’s and BR together in one package. Excellent tracklist. Lately is one of my favorite INXS tracks.
I have the 2 CD version released in 2014, Lately isn’t on there but Original Sin is, in exactly the same place, before The Loved One. Have they replaced Original Sin with Lately? Or has it just been missed off the tracklist? Just checked Amazon France, they have Original Sin listed before Lately, in its rightful place.
Would be ironic if the French release included the extra track (‘Original Sin’) since they had an extra track on the original Live Baby Live release (‘Bitter Tears’). Am hoping the tracklisting is in error and ‘Original Sin’ is on it.
Wonder what happened to the track Original Sin as it was definitely played at this show.
In the spring of 1991, barely 2 weeks after I had moved to San Francisco, a ticket presented itself for me to see INXS in Oakland, Ca. I had seen them in a smaller venue on the KICK tour a few years before that…and was presently surprised that they performed brilliantly in front of a MUCH larger crowd… Unlike this Wembley who, they were in an arena. I am VERY glad this is getting a proper release as my boots from 1991 are very good but not release quality.
Already have my tickets for the 4K movie in NYC on Dec. 9th! Will get this disc but too bad there won’t be a 4K disc afterwards. Was hoping for a 4K disc from The Cure too for the Anniversary release because in the movie theater it was stunning but no dice.
CRAZY that this will be mastered in 4K and not then released in 4K…talk about leaving money on the table!
@Steven Roberts:
One of the mysteries of the world. Why not release a movie in 4K if mastered in 4K? I’ve seen a few movies like that [for example Cline Eastwood “spaghetti western” trio].
Maybe it will be released eventually after milking the regular 2K Blu-ray viewers dry.
Yeah, it did occur to me that the label might go for a spot of double-dipping with a 4K release later on, but as someone else has mentioned here already it’s perhaps more likely to see release as a 4K streaming title at some point on AppleTV (or similar).
Bluray isn’t 2k Steven. It’s 1080×768
They did released this concert on cd in 2014
Remixed and Remastered by Mark Opitz and Colin Wynne…still available on Amazon I believe
@Anthony – you are correct…I purchased direct from Petrol Electric in 2014 and my 2 CD version includes “Original Sin” on Disc 1 instead of “Lately” and it has an extra song on Disc 2 (the final track) song is “Shining Star”. Mastering was excellent. Interested a Blu Ray release only.
Yes i have that and the sound on it is terrible.
I was there, too. My – very hazy – memory is that Hutchence had the whole place in the palm of his hand. I’ve got the original show on a cassette recorded off from the Radio 1 live broadcast so this will be good opportunity to upgrade it!
The tracklist doesn’t include “Shining star”. Granted it’s not a top level INXS track, but it was part of the original release…
That means they didn’t play it at Wembley.
Wasn’t this a studio track mixed into the liveshow?
It was indeed, it was a very odd decision for a live album to do that.
Always hoping for a release for “Queean at Wembley” like this. Fingers still crossed…
Nice! Wonderful! But wait… Isn’t there an edition with a Blu-Ray??
Nope! Blu-ray should come next year, apparently.
Any UK links for the vinyl?
Not yet, and the CD has now disappeared for good measure!
The link to Amazon uk dosen’t
work
I was there that night, I can’t believe that for years I’ve always thought it was the Wembley show I’ve been listening to, guess I’ll have to get this one now.
Presumably the concert film will be coming out on 4K at some stage? Will wait until then to see if there is a package that includes the cds.
Incidentally, I was at this concert.
I asked about that and was told there wasn’t going to be. Standalone blu-ray is the plan.
