Now That’s What I Call Christmas
Festive compilation on 4CD or 3LP red vinyl
Now That’s What I Call Music have gone the multi-disc route this year for a new Christmas compilation. Now That’s What I Call Christmas features a mix of well-established timeless classics with a smattering of more recent material and even the odd curveball and rarity.
The 4CD collection is packaged in an 8-panel card sleeve and offers a Turkey-tastic 85 tracks. With so much capacity, they seem to have featured virtually everything, including Wham!, Elton John, Wizzard, Slade, Paul McCartney, Boney M., Shakin’ Stevens, Greg Lake, The Beach Boys, Jona Lewie, Chris De Burgh, Mike Oldfield, David Essex, The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl, Pretenders, Aled Jones, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Flying Pickets, The Housemartins, Paul Young, East 17 AND MORE!
In and around those 70s/80s classics are old timers like Sinatra, Crosby, Martin, Williams, King Cole and ‘newbies’ such as Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Ed Sheeran, George Ezra and Alexandra Burke.
There’s even space for what I believe is a new-to-CD rarity in the 12-inch version of Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’, although the compilers also include the standard version AS WELL, so there can be no complaining.
If you are wondering why Kate Bush’s ‘December Could Be Magic Again’ is missing (either in standard, or rare ‘bongo version’ form) it’s because, as SDE understands it, the licensing request was refused. It’s hard to understand why Kate wouldn’t want her Christmas song on a Christmas compilation, but there you go. Maybe she’s gone off it. We have to make do with her inferior 1993 B-side ‘Home For Christmas’, instead.
Now That’s What I Call Christmas will be released as a 4CD set on 28 October 2022. The 50-track 3LP red vinyl version follows on 11 November 2022. Full track listings are below.
