NewsPink Floyd / Animals 50
Rarities and live concert
Ratings
Pink Floyd’s 1977 album Animals will be reissued early next year to mark the 50th anniversary.
2CD, 2LP and blu-ray editions offer five rarities including an unheard Roger Waters track called ‘Young Nicholas Jon’ and previously unreleased early versions of ‘Sheep’ and ‘Dogs’. The blu-ray and deluxe box set also include the May 9, 1977 live show from California, recorded at the Oakland Coliseum Arena by a then 19 year old bootlegger, Reinhard Hohlwein.
The blu-ray (remarkably, the third blu-ray audio of this album!) also includes the original 1977 stereo mix and the 2018 remix in stereo, 5.1 and Atmos.
The deluxe box set features a 64-page hardback book with new sleeve notes from Jonathan Lethem, an interview with the aforementioned Reinhard Hohlwein, and an excerpt from Hipgnosis’ Aubrey “Po” Powell’s memoir about the making of Animals’ iconic album art. The disc content is as follows:
- CD1: Animals (Original album)
- CD2: Animals (2018 Remix)
- CD3: Rarities
- CD4: Live from the Oakland Coliseum Arena, 1977 Disc 1
- CD5: Live from the Oakland Coliseum Arena, 1977 Disc 2
- LP1: Animals (Original album)
- LP2: Animals (2018 Remix)
- LP3: Rarities
- Blu-ray
Animals will be reissued on 22 January 2027, via Sony. You can order the standalone blu-ray from the SDE shop using this link or the button below.
