Ian Gillan Band / Down The Road: The Complete Ian Gillan Band Story

Ian Gillan ‘retired’ from the music business post-Deep Purple to pursue other business ventures (some successful, some not) but was soon back with a new group called, the Ian Gillan Band. Their output is celebrated in a new 8CD box called Down The Road: The Complete Ian Gillan Band Story.

Gillan recruited guitarist Ray Fenwick, bass player John Gustafson, keyboard player Mike Moran and Mark Nauseef on drums, and Ian Gillan Band would go on to release three studio albums (on three different labels) between 1976 and 1977: Child in Time, Clear Air Turbulence and Scarabus.

The sound was a departure from the heavy sound of Deep Purple to a more progressive jazz rock fusion and the band found an audience in Japan, in particular.

The new box set features newly mastered versions of all three studio albums along with rare mixes, some demos, single edits and three live shows.

This comes in seven-inch style packaging (to match the Gillan box from last year) and includes a 24-page booklet with sleeve notes by Rich Davenport who has interview Ian Gillan about his time with the band.

Down The Road: The Complete Ian Gillan Band Story will be released on 27 March 2026 (was 27 February) via Edsel and seems like exceptionally good value at less than £40.
