Rhino continue with their Joni Mitchell Archives reissue programme with The Asylum Albums 1976-1980 which delves into Joni Mitchell’s jazz-inflected sound on her 1970’s studio albums.
5CD and 6LP 180g vinyl box sets offer newly remastered editions of Hejira (1976), Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter (1977) and Mingus (1979) – and the live album Shadows and Light (1980).
Famed bassist and composer — and long-time Mitchell collaborator — Jaco Pastorius appears prominently on each of the four albums in this set, alongside other noted jazz luminaries like Charles Mingus and Herbie Hancock.
These boxes are presented “with premium packaging” and feature abstract cover artwork from Mitchell’s private fine arts collection. Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter has a new front cover.
The Asylum Albums 1976-1980 is released on 21 June 2024, via Rhino.
