Kraftwerk have announced a 50th anniversary blu-ray edition of their landmark 1974 album Autobahn.

After re-visiting the original 16-track master tapes, Kraftwerk founder Ralf Hütter with engineer Fritz Hilpert have created a brand-new Dolby Atmos Mix which takes the listening experience of this seminal recording further and deeper than ever before. I heard the Atmos Mix at a playback event in London last December and can confirm that it’s a great mix!

The blu-ray edition features the album in the following versions:

• Dolby Atmos Mix
• 5.1 Mix (48/24 – rendered from the Atmos)
• Stereo Mix (48/24) [2009 remastered audio]

Additionally, the blu-ray features two new 2024 single edits and a video of the ‘Autobahn’ edit using animation/live projection visuals. All three play in Atmos / 5.1 / Stereo.

This region-free blu-ray audio comes with a 12-page booklet in amaray packaging, and ships with an SDE exclusive slipcase (note: the 50th anniversary sticker shown in the image sits outside the shrink-wrap, so as not to spoil the cover art).

There’s also a special vinyl picture disc edition of Autobahn (the first ever Kraftwerk picture disc!) which comes in a die-cut sleeve and features both versions of the cover art of the album (UK ‘motorway sign’ version and the image used for most of the rest of the world).
