Echoes – Ancient & Modern SDE-exclusive
Trevor Horn’s forthcoming album, Echoes – Ancient & Modern, features a series of guest vocalists – including Tori Amos, Iggy Pop, Marc Almond and Rick Astley – singing on classic songs. It is #14 in the ongoing SDE Surround Series and I’m pleased to report that we have managed to add some extra content to it, to hopefully make it more interesting and compelling for you, the listener!
This was announced about a month ago and the content promised was as follows:
- Dolby Atmos Mix
- 5.1 Mix
- Hi-Res Stereo Mix
- Video of Trevor Horn taking you through the album track-by-track
I interviewed Trevor the other day (coming soon!) and I assumed the 5.1 mix was derived from the Atmos, but no, Horn has done a dedicated 5.1 mix from scratch – it was not rendered from the Atmos. Great news!
But the bigger news is that we have now secured an instrumental version of Echoes – Ancient and Modern for this blu-ray audio. Not only that, the instrumental is in 5.1! Those Trevor Horn backing tracks are a very interesting listen.
As far as I’m aware, the 5.1 mix and the instrumentals are totally exclusive to this disc and I hope you’ll agree that this now makes this a very well-spec’d blu-ray.

Trevor Horn’s Echoes – Ancient & Modern will be released on 1 December 2023, via Deutsche Grammophon. You can buy the stereo version on CD and vinyl as well, of course (widgets below).
TECHNICAL NOTES: This blu-ray audio requires a blu-ray player. Decoding the Dolby Atmos mix requires a Dolby Atmos-certified soundbar or a Dolby Atmos-compatible AV Receiver/Amp. The Dolby Atmos mix will ‘fold down’ to 5.1 or stereo if a Dolby Atmos decoder is not detected.
