NOW Yearbook 1972

80 tracks from 1972

NOW Music pulls on the flares and dons a ‘kipper’ tie as it heads back to the 1970s with its Yearbook series for a thorough musical examination of 1972.

4CD editions (the usual deluxe hardcover book and standard card sleeve sets) include 80 tracks and a blue vinyl 3LP version offers 50.

In terms of the 4CD version disc one offers tracks from John Lennon, Rod Stewart, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, Cat Stevens, Paul McCartney and Wings, Harry Nilsson, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and more.

CD 2 goes Glam/Art-rock with contributions from Roxy Music, Sweet, Slade, Alice Cooper, and Mott The Hoople but also includes songs by Jeff Beck, Argent, Free, ELO, Hawkwind and ends with a certain novelty hit from Chuck Berry.

4CD deluxe edition

Disc three opens in style with Shirley Bassey’s Bond theme ‘Diamonds Are Forever’, and embraces an easy listening vibe with numbers from Andy Williams and Tony Christie (the original release of ‘Is This The Way To) Amarillo’). Soul is represented by The Stylistics, Diana Ross, Jackson 5, The O’Jays and more. The CD closes with Sly & The Family Stone’s ‘Family Affair’.

The fourth and final CD offers more Elton, Rod Stewart (via his vocal on Python Lee Jackson’s ‘In A Broken Dream – featured memorably on the soundtrack to Lars Von Trier’s 1996 film Breaking The Waves), Sweet, Elvis and Don McLean and features The New Seekers’ ‘I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing’.

NOW Yearbook 1972 will be released on 8 May 2026.
