50 Years of Music is a forthcoming 11CD deluxe set that charts the solo career of Roxy Music guitarist, record producer and musical collaborator, Phil Manzanera.

This new collection brings together all of Manzanera’s 10 solo albums, with bonus tracks. These discs feature contributions from the likes of Brian Eno, David Gilmour, Neil and Tim Finn, Andy Mackay, Robert Wyatt, Eddie Jobson, Godley & Creme and John Wetton.

Long-players include Phil’s 1975 debut Diamond Head, the Orwell-inspired Listen Now from 1977, K-Scope, with the Finn brothers in 1978 and 1982’s Primitive Guitars that reflects Phil’s Latin and psychedelic roots, as well as having one foot on the dance floor.

Southern Cross from 1990 sees Manzanera explore his Cuban childhood (he spent time in South America and Hawaii with his Colombian mother and English father) and 1999’s Vozero was part one of what was known as ‘the white album trilogy’, with Phil singing as well as songwriting. 2004’s 6PM and 50 Minutes from 2005 completed this trilogy.

The last disc in this collection is a bonus disc of rarities, called Rare Two (it’s a follow-up to 2000’s Rare One). This features demos, live tracks and rarities, including PM 1 which is an early version of Pink Floyd’s One Slip (from 1987’s A Momentary Lapse of Reason) that Phil wrote with David Gilmour.

This deluxe set is presented as a 10” x 10” rigid board slipcase which contains three folio wallets which hold the 11 CDs. Also included is a 100-page hardcover book with photos, handwritten notes, tape boxes, scribbles, clippings, alternate artwork, lyrics and so on. The audio has been remastered by Barry Grint at London Air Studios.

50 Years of Music will be released on 1 November 2024, via UMR.
