The Cardigans are prepping a B-sides compilation

Swedish rock band The Cardigans have a new compilation of B-sides/rarities in the pipeline for release later this year.

Formed in 1992, the group – gutarist Peter Svensson, bassist Magnus Sveningsson, drummer Bengt Lagerberg, keyboardist Lars-Olof Johansson and lead singer Nina Persson – released six albums between 1994 and 2005, enjoying significant international success in the mid-to-late nineties with their First Band on the Moon and Gran Turismo albums and singles ‘Lovefool’, ‘Erase/Rewind’ and ‘My Favourite Game’. Their 2003 longplayer, Long Gone Before Daylight, is a forgotten masterpiece.

Confirmed by the band on their Facebook page, two 2LP sets – with the working title The Rest of the Best – will offer B-sides and rarities and the group are already checking test pressings. The good news for compact disc fans is these compilations will also be available on CD. Yay!

Aside from collecting the original singles, thus far, the only way to obtain any Cardigans rarities on CD was to either seek out the Japanese/Australian compilation called The Other Side of The Moon (1997) or to purchase the deluxe edition of The Cardigans Best Of from 2008, which featured a bonus CD of B-sides and the like.
