The Who / Who By Numbers SDE exclusive blu-ray

#78 in the SDE Surround Series

Quick pre-order •  Manic Street Preachers and Pet Shop Boys blu-rays also announced today.

The Who By Numbers, The Who’s seventh studio album, will be released as an SDE exclusive blu-ray audio next month, alongside box set and vinyl editions.

Released in October 1975, the album features nine Townshend Originals, including the hits ‘Squeeze Box’ and ‘Slip Kid’. ‘Success Story’ was written by John ‘The Ox’ Entwistle.

The Who By Numbers SDE blu-ray is the final Who album from the 1970s to be released as an SDE blu-ray, after Quadrophenia, Who’s Next and Who Are You.

The audio streams of Who By Numbers on the SDE blu-ray are as follows:

  • Who By Numbers Pete Townshend Dolby Atmos mix (48/24)
  • Who By Numbers Pete Townshend 5.1 Mix (48/24)
  • Who By Numbers Original Stereo Mix (96/24)
  • VIDEO: Live at Metropolitan Stadium, 6 Dec 1975 (103 mins)

This blu-ray includes something really quite special: 1 hr and 43 minutes of VIDEO FOOTAGE of The Who playing live at Metropolitan Stadium, Pontiac, Michigan on 6 December 1975.

This was a significant show. The Who set a (then) record for the largest ever indoor rock concert attendance when 76,898 people packed into Metropolitan Stadium in Pontiac, also known as ‘The Silverdome’. Due to the venue’s size, a large closed circuit video screen was installed and four cameras were used to convey instant visuals to the back projection. The images were recorded onto 2″ videotape with the sound captured in mono via a direct line feed from the PA.In 1977 the film was partly used in The Kids Are Alright movie but some 50 years on the entire show has been exhumed from The Who’s Archives and professionally cleaned up, with the audio remastered (it remains in mono). It stands as one of the few complete visual records of this tour – The Who’s last with Keith Moon.

The Who By Numbers (Region-free) blu-ray audio is #78 in the ongoing SDE Surround Series and it will be packaged similarly to previous editions and ships with a free, collectible SDE Surround Series slipcase.

This is a TIME LIMITED release. It available to pre-order for two weeks only. The pre-order window closes on 18 September 2026. Availability after that point cannot be guaranteed. Pre-order it from the SDE shop using this link or the buttons below.
