T’Pau / Be Wonderful

T’Pau will release their sixth studio album, Be Wonderful, in April.

Be Wonderful is Carol Decker and Ronnie Rodgers’ second album of originals since reuniting in 2013, following Pleasure And Pain (2015). It was recorded at Rodgers’ own studio, Up The Lane, in Monmouth, South Wales. “We do everything in house,” says Decker, “which means we have to be really creative like we were in the early days when we were starting out.”

First single, ‘Read My Lips’, will be released at the end of March and a 30-second clip posted by the band to social media shows Decker mouthing along to ‘Read My Lips’, suggesting a pop-punk direction in keeping with their renewed DIY spirit and matching the defiant attitude of the lyrics. “‘Read My Lips’ is about pushing back and doing what you feel is right for you,” Decker says in an accompanying press release. “There are always people who try to tell you what you should do, what you can say, what you can’t say, what is age-appropriate. I’ve encountered some quite nasty people on social media being rude about my point of view, my opinions, my appearance, my music – there’s so much noise out there.

“So the song is really about overcoming your own self-doubt,” she continues. “I’m still waiting for the day to come when I’m old enough to be wise! But you just have to dust yourself off, stand up and start again, and ‘keep your foot on the gas’.”

Be Wonderful will be available on CD or LP. The LP will be pressed on 140g, coloured vinyl and will be limited to 1,000 copies, which will all be personally signed by Decker. Availability seems limited to the band’s own shop, for now.
