Denny Laine dies aged 79

I’m sad to report that songwriter and musician Denny Laine, of The Moody Blues and Wings fame, has died at the age of 79.

Denny succumbed to interstitial lung disease from which he had been suffering for a while. His health took a turn for the worse earlier this year and his wife Elizabeth Hines was by his side when he died.

Denny was the only member of Wings to stay the course during the 1970s and appeared on every album, co-writing songs such as ‘No Words’ (from Band on the Run) and ‘Mull of Kintyre’, still the biggest selling non-charity single in the UK.

His own compositions also made appearances on Wings records, including ‘Time to Hide’ from 1976’s Wings at the Speed of Sound and ‘Again and Again and Again’ from 1979’s Back to the Egg. Denny appeared on Paul’s Tug of War and Pipes of Peace solo albums in the early 1980s, before the pair fell out, although in later years they patched it up and were photographed together at a UB40 concert in the 1990s.
