Garbage: How not to reissue an album

I love Garbage. They make grown-up pop music and Shirley Manson’s voice is a thing of beauty. I actually think their second album, Version 2.0, is significantly better than their self-titled debut, but logically enough it’s the first album the band chose to reissue, er, first. However, they’ve made some significant mistakes with the re-release of Garbage which they should reflect on if/when they come around to reissuing Version 2.0. Even if they don’t reflect on them, SDE will do it for them now…

R.E.M. seal deal with Concord to reissue Warner-era albums

Bad news and really bad timing for Warner Bros., because as we approach the 25th anniversaries of R.E.M.‘s landmark Out of Time and Automatic For The People albums, the band (who split in 2011) have entered into a multi-year, worldwide licensing agreement with “leading independent music company” Concord Bicycle Music Company for those albums and in fact all their recording output spanning the years 1988 through 2011 (the Warner years).

It’s been a busy few days here at SDE HQ. I attempted to take a few hours off from the world of pop-and-rock-music at the beginning of this week (it was my birthday on Tuesday), and indulge in a spot of shopping with the bonus of a rare kids-free lunch with my wife. Easier said than done though, since there I was in John Lewis, in London’s Oxford Street, having a peruse in the menswear department and I look up and who’s standing there doing the very same thing? Only Jon Moss from Culture Club!
