30 years after Portishead’s seminal debut Dummy, and over 20 years since her collaboration with Rustin Man (Talk Talk’s Paul Webb), Beth Gibbons is about to release her debut solo album, Lives Outgrown.
The album was produced by James Ford and Gibbons with additional production by Lee Harris (another Talk Talk connection, he was the drummer).
Described as “Beth’s most personal work to date”, the album is a result of a period of sustained reflection and change — “lots of goodbyes,” in Beth’s words. Floating on a Moment, the first song made available from Lives Outgrown, will give you a feel for the album, and you can listen below.
The album is available on deluxe CD, packaged in a hardcover ‘casebound’ book (but with no extra tracks) or a standard presentation (jewel case). There’s also a deluxe vinyl in addition to the standard version that ship with a 12-page scrapbook. Remarkably (refreshingly?) there appears to be no coloured vinyl variant!
Lives Outgrown will be released on 17 May 2024, via Domino.
