Donna Summer / Cats Without Claws deluxe edition

Donna Summer’s twelfth studio album, Cats Without Claws, is set for reissue in April next year, to mark the album’s 40th anniversary. 

After Summer found fame in the disco scene of the 1970s, she became the first signee of the newly established Geffen records in 1980. Although she never quite retained the level of success of hits such as ‘I Feel Love’, her 1983 album She Works Hard For The Money had proved to be her most successful since her peak, and as such Geffen wanted to replicate its formula.

1984’s Cats Without Claws saw Summer reunited with She Works Hard For The Money producer Michael Omartian. Despite this, the album was not a commercial success, peaking at number 40 on the Billboard Album Chart. Summer would however go on to win a Grammy for Best Inspirational Performance for ‘Forgive Me’, the last track on the album. 

This reissue sees the album return to CD format, in this case on 2CD, after the original CD releases had gone out of print. To mark Cats Without Claws‘ 40th anniversary, this reissue features five remixes as well as non-album B-side ‘Face The Music’ and the original mix of ‘Eyes’. It is packaged in seven-inch gatefold packaging and comes with a new essay by author Christian John Wikane. 

Cats Without Claws 40th Anniversary will be released on 18 April 2025 via Demon’s Driven By The Music imprint.
