Collaborative studio album
Elton John and American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile have announced a new studio album, called Who Believes in Angels?
The album mixes Elton-led songs and Brandi-led songs, with long term collaborator Bernie Taupin and Brandi both contributing lyrics. Andrew Watt is the producer. This will be Elton’s 33rd (!) and Carlile’s eighth studio album, respectively.
Elton says: “This record was one of the toughest I’ve ever made, but it was also one of the greatest musical experiences of my life. It has given me a place where I know I can move forward. Who Believes In Angels? feels like going into another era and I’m pushing the door open to come into the future. I have everything I’ve done behind me and it’s been brilliant, amazing. But this is the new start for me. As far as I’m concerned, this is the start of my career Mark 2.”
Other musicians on the record include drummer Chad Smith (from Red Hot Chili Peppers), bass player Pino Palladino and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.
As well as the title track, the Oscar nominated song ‘Never Too Late’ also features on this 10-track album which is available on CD, vinyl and as a CD+DVD collector’s edition.
Amazon have an exclusive alternate artwork on CD (‘Neon Angel’ cover), the standard (gatefold) vinyl is the tri-coloured pressing and there’s various coloured exclusives dotted around the usual channels, with Rough Trade selling the indie ‘neon pink with yellow spiral’ version.
The CD+DVD clamshell collector’s box includes the album, alongside a behind-the-scenes DVD which features an exclusive bonus track, ‘Lord Let Me’. Also included is a number of prints and iron-on patches.
Who Believes In Angels? will be released via EMI Island on 4 April 2025
