Metallica’s 1997 album ReLoad is to be reissued across a number of formats in June, including a massively expanded super deluxe edition box set.

The seventh album by the metal pioneers saw them expand their sound to take in blues and country influences (‘Low Man’s Lyric’ even features hurdy-gurdy and violin) and featured their first-ever guest vocalist, Marianne Faithfull (on ‘The Memory Remains’). A clutch of its songs – including ‘Fuel’ and ‘The Memory Remains’ – have become staples of their live sets. The new edition has been remastered by Reuben Cohen with Greg Fidelman overseeing.

As with previous reissues, dedicated fans will have to start saving up and clearing some shelf space now, as the super deluxe edition is a hefty thing. The box set includes 15 CDs, five LPs, a seven-inch single, and four DVDs. A 128-page book, and a plethora of paraphernalia, including a pack of Rorschach Test cards, poster, sticker, print, plectrums, lyric sheets and laminated tour passes are also included.

The box set features 301 tracks in total, 245 of which are previously unreleased. The CDs take in the remastered album, a four-disc collection of ‘Riffs, Demos, Session Takes, Rough & Alternate Mixes’ (the latest in the Shadowcast rarities series) and eight discs of live material from 1997-’98. On vinyl, there’s five LPs – the remastered ReLoad album on 180g double vinyl and Live at Ministry of Sound ’97, a 140g triple-album – plus a seven-inch single comprising ‘The Memory Remains’ and ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls (Haven’t Heard It Yet Mix)’. And the four DVDs offer behind the scenes, in-studio and live footage, TV appearances and more.

The 3CD edition includes the remaster of the original album, a single-disc best of the Shadowcast rarities set, and a disc comprising 13 of the live tracks included in the big box set. ReLoad (Remastered) will also be available on standard 180g 2LP, CD, and cassette, all featuring the remastered edition of the album.

ReLoad (Remastered) will be released on 26 June via Blackened Recordings.
