Three new live albums from the Sex Pistols are scheduled for release in April. Live in the USA 1978 documents the band’s last tour of the original era, in America, in 1978.
Avoiding major cities such as New York and Los Angeles, the tour took them through the American south, before ending in San Francisco. It was a notorious outing, littered with issues from the start as Warner Bros, the band’s American label, had to put up a $1 million bond to secure visas for two weeks and whilst on the road audiences were provoked, objects flew, tensions brewed, and cracks widened among the Pistols themselves as the band imploded. Within days of Johnny Rotten’s infamous “Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?” challenge to the audience at the last gig in San Francisco, he’d announced his departure from the band.
Live in the USA 1978 includes three shows:
Great South East Music Hall, Atlanta, 5 January 1978
Longhorns Ballroom, Dallas, 10 January 1978
Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco, 14 January 1978
The 3CD version of Live in the USA 1978 includes all three gigs (click image to enlarge)
Each gig is being released separately (and a month apart) on coloured vinyl. These are the concerts in full and correctly sequenced. The Atlanta show is being issued on red vinyl on 28 February, the Dallas show on white vinyl on 28 March and the notorious last show from San Francisco on blue vinyl on 25 April 2025. A 3CD box set featuring all three gigs, coincides with the last vinyl offering, in April.
