NOW Music continue with their ‘era’ series by going back to the early seventies for CD and vinyl sets that celebrate colourful world of glam rock along with the big chart hits that defined the early-to-mid 1970s.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, CD 1 of the 4CD set (available in deluxe hardcover book and standard card sleeve packaging) kicks off with the titular hit from Sweet and also includes tracks from Mud, Suzi Quatro, and Wizzard. It’s not all ‘glam’ though, with big hits from the likes of Leo Sayer (‘The Show Must Go On’), Pilot (‘January’) and Sparks (‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us’).

The second disc includes The New Seekers‘ ‘I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony)’ the Nana-tastic ‘one-two’ of Shocking Blue’s ‘Venus’ and Steam’s ‘Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye’, Edison Lighthouse‘s ‘Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)’ and The 5th Dimension’s easy-pop classic ‘Up, Up And Away’ from 1968.

4CD deluxe version offers hardcover book packaging

CD3 offers (amongst many others) The Rubettes’ ‘Sugar Baby Love’, Bay City Rollers’ ‘Bye Bye Baby’, Carl Douglas’ massive No 1 ‘Kung Fu Fighting’, more Sparks (with Looks, Looks, Looks’), Terry Jacks‘ ‘Seasons In The Sun’, David Essex’s ‘Gonna Make You A Star’ and Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel’s iconic ‘Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me).

The final disc is more on point with singles from T. Rex, Sweet, Mud but also includes Elton John, Brotherhood Of Man and a reminder that Billy Ocean existed in the 1970s with ‘Love Really Hurts Without You’. It’s great to see an ABBA song on a NOW compilation even if ‘Honey Honey’ isn’t the original but a cover by Sweet Dreams. The last disc signs off with The Wombles’ ‘Remember You’re A Womble’.

As well as the 4CD versions there’s the usual 3LP pressed on coloured vinyl. The 4CD sets have 81 tracks whereas vinyl buyers have to settle for 53.

NOW That’s What I Call An Era – Ballroom Blitz: 1967-1976 will be released on 6 November 2026.
