The Pale Fountains were formed in Liverpool in 1980. This box includes their two albums released on Virgin: Pacific Street (1984) and …From Across the Kitchen Table (1985). It also features B-sides, mixes, and some previously unreleased material. Notes by John Earls.
Spandau Ballet will release a ‘early years’ 9-disc box set in September that focuses on their first two albums.
Everything is Now: Vol 1 – The Early Years 1978-1982 will feature six CDs, one blu-ray and two vinyl records and will include a 44-page book with photos and a new commentary from the whole band.

The first two CDs offer a comprehensive roundup of remixes, while CD 3 offers further 12-inch mixes from the Diamond 4×12-inch box set that was released in 1982. That box had some unique mixes.
The 1981 BBC Session from CD 4 dates from 15 March that year, 9 days after the release of Spandau Ballet’s debut album, Journeys to Glory. Conversely, the 1982 In Concert from Bournemouth dates from 19 April ’82, around five weeks after follow-up Diamond was released. The Paris Theatre ‘In Concert’ from CD 5 was recorded 12 days earlier, an illustration of how busy the band were at the time, trying to promote their new album.

CD 6 features three Gentry demos recorded at Halligan Studios in London’s Holloway Road in “mid-1979” and four Arista demos recorded on 31 August 1980 at Pathways Studios in Islington. So only seven demos on this disc.
Steven Wilson has mixed the singles in Atmos, but not the whole albums. So six tracks: ‘To Cut A Long Story Short’, ‘The Freeze’, ‘Muscle Bound’, ‘Chant No. 1 (I Don’t Need This Pressure On)’, ‘Paint Me Down’ and ‘Instinction’. These are available on the blu-ray in Atmos, Stereo and as stereo instrumentals. As well as the music videos, the blu-ray includes rare live footage from NYC’s Underground Club (1981) and a 1982 appearance on BBC TV’s Old Grey Whistle Test.
Gary Kemp explains the title of the box: “I was having a conversation with Spandau’s manager and lifelong friend Steve Dagger. We were talking about my kids who are constantly listening to and streaming old music, making discoveries like Steely Dan or The Zombies. On TikTok and social media old tracks are getting reinvented. Our streaming is going up and up for people of all ages. Dagger said, ‘The thing is everything is now.’ I said, ‘That’s the title.’ It isn’t the past anymore. It’s in constant re-evaluation and people are discovering it.”

Despite being announced as a Record Store Day release for April this year, Elton John’s 1977 live show at London’s Rainbow Theatre (with Ray Cooper) is being given a full retail release, next month.
Normally in this situation the RSD releases would be coloured vinyl, or similar, and then perhaps a black vinyl would follow, but in this instance the RSD release was black vinyl and so is this full retail version. We have to presume they are identical!
However, this time around Live from the Rainbow Theatre, with Ray Cooper is being issued on CD as well, so that is definitely welcome. In fact, the CD offers a bonus track not on the vinyl: ‘Goodbye’.

These performances on this live album were the first of 233 Elton-and-Ray only shows that would follow and featured the live debut of ‘Roy Rogers’, ‘Cage The Songbird’, ‘Idol’ and ‘I Feel Like A Bullet (In The Gun Of Robert Ford)’.

Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel’s 1975 album The Best Years of Our Lives will is reissued on SDE exclusive blu-ray audio. #42 in the SDE Surround Series, this features Alan Parsons’ Dolby Atmos, 5.1, Stereo and Instrumental mixes and bonus tracks.
John Mayall / The Second Generation: Live Music 1968 – 1992
A limited-edition 30CD box set capturing over two decades of John Mayall’s pioneering Blues performances. It comes with a 120-page hardback book with introduction and contributions from Gaz Mayall, plus many previously unseen photos.
Gorillaz / Tomorrow Comes Today (white and blue vinyl)
Gorillaz‘ Tomorrow Comes Today is reissued for its 25th anniversary. This is pressed on 140g white and blue 12-inch vinyl. Side 1 includes the singles Rock The House and Tomorrow Comes Today, while Side 2 offers a rare English-language version of ‘Latin Simone’ alongside ’12D3′.
Five of Sting’s early solo studio albums, including classics such as The Dream of the Blue Turtles and …Nothing Like The Sun, have appeared online via Japanese retailers. These expanded, multi-disc sets feature many bonus tracks.

All of these are 2CD sets, except for The Dream of the Blue Turtles and Brand New Day which are both 3CD packages. For reasons unknown, 1996’s Mercury Falling does not appear to be part of this reissue campaign.
The bonus tracks match the streaming expanded editions, which have been available for the last few years. The extras are a mixed bag; there’s lots of welcome B-sides/extra tracks from the original singles (or 12-inches) but there’s also quite a few remixes included that were done much later. So for example, with The Dream of the Blue Turtles we do get original B-sides, ‘Another Day’ (from ‘If You Love Someone Set Them Free’) and ‘The Ballad of Mac The Knife’ (from ‘Moon Over Bourbon Street’) and the original Jellybean and William Orbit remixes of ‘If You Love Someone Set Them Free’ but the compilers have decided to include a further EIGHT remixes of ‘If You Love Someone Set Them Free’ including four ‘Soulpower’ variants that date from 1991. Meanwhile the B-side of ‘Russians’, which was ‘Gabriel’s Message’ isn’t included!
Similarly, …Nothing Like The Sun includes three dj MONK remixes of ‘Fragile’. These are universally awful and were created in 2001, 14 years after the original album. Sting’s excellent ‘We Work The Black Seam ’93’ could, maybe should, have been included on the bonus disc of The Dream of the Blue Turtles but they’ve aligned it with Ten Summoner’s Tales, presumably because it first appeared on the US CD single of ‘I Ever Lose My Faith in You’. Full tracklistings are below.
Putting to one side nitpicking on bonus tracks, the bigger question is why are these happening in only in Japan, in a rather under-the-radar fashion? There’s no mention of them on Sting’s official channels. Can we expect these to get a wider release later on, and if so, will North America and UK/Europe choose to something different with Sting’s catalogue?
Time will tell. Until then, if you wish to order these from Japan there’s some links below. They are all SHM-CDs (compatible with all CD players) but don’t appear to be ‘paper sleeve’ type presentations. These are all released relatively soon, on 11 July 2025.
Matt Deighton’s 2023 album, Today Become Forever, is the next release in the SDE Surround Series. This is a Blu-ray Audio featuring Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and stereo mixes, which is limited to just 1,000 units.
For those unfamiliar with Matt Deighton, he is a superb singer, songwriter and guitarist who first came to prominence in the 1990s in the group Mother Earth. Signed to Acid Jazz, they released three studio albums before disbanding in 1996. Matt then went on the road as Paul Weller’s guitarist on 1997’s Heavy Soul tour and remained with The Weller band until late 1999 when he joined Oasis (!) as replacement guitarist for Noel Gallagher who had taken a sabbatical from the newly reunited band.
As well as this, over the years and decades Matt Deighton has released a number of solo albums and collaborations most of which garnered critical acclaim. His 1995 album Villager is often hailed as a British folk classic and 2001’s The Common Good was part produced by John Leckie and features performances from drummer Steve White, Mick Talbot, Paul Weller, Marco Nelson and others. 2017’s Kids Steal Feelings was a collaboration with Squeeze legend Chris Difford and the making of the excellent Doubtless Dauntless, from 2018, was documented in the Sky Arts film Overshadowed. Matt’s most recent release is The Instant Garden, an album recorded with Dr. Robert of The Blow Monkeys.
Today Become Forever was originally issued on CD and vinyl in 2023 and features three tracks produced by the legendary Ken Scott (‘High Time (Figured It Out)’, ‘Snow Lit Lovers’ and ‘When All Heaven Breaks Loose’. Other numbers include the epic opener ‘A Song That’s On My Mind’, the poppy ‘Anhedonia’ and the acoustic lilt of ‘Letting Go’.
The SDE exclusive blu-ray will be the second release on SDE Records and is #44 in the ongoing SDE Surround Series. It will feature the album in Dolby Atmos (mixed by Tim Burns) alongside a 5.1 mix, a Hi-Res Stereo version, and exclusive instrumental version as well as a previously unreleased track from the Today Become Forever sessions, called ‘Satisfiction’. Matt supplied this and it was newly mixed by Tim Burns.

Genesis have today offered an official update on the delays with the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway super deluxe edition box set.
5LP+blu-ray audio and 4CD+blu-ray audio formats were announced last November, originally for March 2025 release. That later was pushed back to 13 June, and now, a day before that revised date, we are told the boxes will come in “Autumn 2025”.
The actual statement is as follows:
We deeply apologise to fans who have been kept in The Waiting Room to receive their orders for THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition box set. Due to unforeseen production issues, the release planned for 13 June has unfortunately been delayed until late Autumn 2025. We understand you’ve been patiently Counting Out Time, and will update with the final delivery date as soon as It is available.

Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - 4CD+blu-ray super deluxe
His family announced the passing of the songwriting legend whose news in the last hour, saying “We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away,” his family said in a statement shared online.”We are at a loss for words right now,” they added.
Wilson’s artistic control, songwriting and cutting edge production techniques resulted in many great albums, most notably 1966’s seminal Pet Sounds, a record he created spurred on by his competitive spirit after hearing The Beatles‘ Rubber Soul. Paul McCartney has long acknowledged the influence of Pet Sounds on him and The Beatles In late 1966 and 1967 as they worked on what would become Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

UFO’s 1980 album, No Place to Run, will be reissued on CD and vinyl formats in August.
This album was produced by George Martin at AIR Studios in Montserrat and was the first to feature Paul Chapman on guitar, following the departure of Michael Schenker.
2CD and 3LP vinyl reissues feature newly remastered audio (courtesy of AIR Mastering) and include a recording of the UFO’s appearance at The Marquee in London from 16 November 1980, newly mixed from the multi-track tapes, by Brian Kehew.
Both formats include notes by Michael Hann which incorporate interviews with Phil Mogg and Andy Parker. No Place to Run will be released on 15 August 2025, via Chrysalis Records.
David Bowie and Mick Jagger’s 1985 single Dancing in the Street is being reissued on white vinyl for its 40th anniversary.
The song was recorded two weeks before the video was shown at 7pm on the day of Live Aid, just before David Bowie took to the stage at Wembley. In fact, the audio recording and the video were completed, on the same day (29 June 1985), in just 13 hours, with the two stars going directly from the studio to Spillers Millennium Mills in the East End of London to shoot the promo with director David Mallet. The video has been restored from the original film negative, for this celebratory release (scroll down, to check it out).
We had such a laugh doing Dancing in the Street with both the song recorded in the studio and the video done in one day. Remarkable how we pulled it off really. The video is hilarious to watch now. We enjoyed camping it up and trying to impersonate each other’s moves, making it up as we went along. It was the only time David and myself collaborated on anything, which is a real shame.

The new limited edition vinyl 12-inch single brings together all of the song’s commercially released mixes on one disc. The ‘Clearmountain Mix’ and the ‘Instrumental’ were originally A and B-sides of the seven-inch single, while the ‘Steve Thompson Mix’, the ‘Edit’ and the ‘Dub Mix’ were all on the original 12-inch.
The new 12-inch white vinyl single of Dancing in the Street will be released on 29 August 2025. 30 percent of the retail price from the sale of this single will be donated by David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Parlophone Records to The Band Aid Charitable Trust.
INXS/Listen Like ThievesCD, Vinyl, Box Set, Blu-ray
After some pesky delays, the INXS‘Listen Like Thieves SDE exclusive blu-ray is shipping imminently for release on Friday. It features a brand new Dolby Atmos Mix, new stereo mix and bonus B-sides and 12-inch mixes. The blu-ray is now back in stock due to cancellations/contingency.
Roger Waters will issue the concert film – and soundtrack – of his 2023 This Is Not A Drill show in August.
The show is from 25 May 2023, as performed at the O2 Arena in Prague and features a large selection of Pink Floyd numbers (mostly from The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall) as well as tracks from Waters solo albums, such as 1992’s Amused to Death and 2017’s Is This The Life We Really Want? New song, ‘The Bar’ is also included.
The 24-track selection is being released as a 4LP vinyl box set, across two CDs and on DVD and blu-ray. The latter two feature the concert film and are dubbed This Is Not A Drill: Live From Prague The Movie.
Accompanying the HD visuals, the blu-ray features the soundtrack in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 (Dolby TrueHD) and in uncompressed LPCM Stereo. It also features two bonus tracks with music video (animations of ‘Comfortably Numb’ and ‘Two Suns in the Sunset’.

Belinda Carlisle will release a new studio album, in August, called Once Upon a Time in California.
It’s a covers album which includes classic songs such as Bacharach & David’s ‘Anyone Who Had A Heart’ (written for Dionne Warwick), the Carpenters‘ ‘Superstar’, Harry Nilsson’s ‘Everybody’s Talkin’ and more. The first track being made available is Belinda’s version of The Air That I Breathe, written by Albert Hammond and a major hit for The Hollies in 1974.
The 10-track album is available in limited edition signed versions – on CD and ‘sunset’ coloured vinyl – both available on Amazon as well as on vinyl picture disc.

Madonna has announced the release of Veronica Electronica, a vinyl-only mini-album that features remixes of tracks from her 1998 album Ray of Light.
This was apparently going to be released at the time, but was ultimately sidelined by Ray of Light’s success and the many singles and remixes issued from it on CD single.
Veronica Electronica features newly edited versions of club remixes by Peter Rauhofer, William Orbit, Sasha, BT, and Victor Calderone, along with the original demo of ‘Gone, Gone, Gone’ – a previously unreleased recording produced by Madonna and Rick Nowels.
This announcement is another seemingly random diversion off the reissue highway that is Warner Music’s now infamous “multi-year catalog series” announcement, from nearly five years ago. Not so much a reissue campaign, more a mirage. No Madge studio albums have been reissued in that time and it was only in February that Madonna appeared to suggest that a Bedtime Stories re-release was on the way.
Veronica Electronica will be released on 25 July 2025 on ‘silver nugget’ coloured vinyl. There is no CD version.
NOW Music continue their year-themed remix series with a 4CD set that targets 1985.
NOW 12″80s: 1985 – Part One is as strong as you’d expect with contributions from many, many classic artists including Queen, a-ha, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Phil Collins, Eurythmics, ABC, Go West, Nik Kershaw, Simple Minds, The Power Station, Bryan Ferry, Arcadia, Propaganda, New Order, Level 42 and more.
There’s 46 extended versions, in total, across the four discs. NOW 12″80s: 1985 – Part One will be released on 11 July 2025. Expect ‘Part Two’ later this year.
a-ha frontman Morten Harket has revealed that he has Parkinson’s disease.
The 65-year old singer and songwriter said “I’ve got no problem accepting the diagnosis. With time I’ve taken to heart my 94-year-old father’s attitude to the way the organism gradually surrenders: ‘I use whatever works’”.
Morten has known about this for a while, saying “Part of me wanted to reveal it. Like I said, acknowledging the diagnosis wasn’t a problem for me; it’s my need for peace and quiet to work that has been stopping me. I’m trying the best I can to prevent my entire system from going into decline. It’s a difficult balancing act between taking the medication and managing its side effects. There’s so much to weigh up when you’re emulating the masterful way the body handles every complex movement, or social matters and invitations, or day-to-day life in general.”
Parkinson’s disease is caused by the loss of dopamine-producing cells in the brain, and it affects areas of the midbrain that control movement and manage communication between neurons in the brain and muscles. Harket has been receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic in the United States which has “led to a dramatic improvement in his symptoms” according to a statement posted on the a-ha’s website.
A side effect of this treatment is that it impacts Morten’s voice. He doesn’t know if he’ll be able to sing again or even whether he wants to sing again.
When asked about his concerned fans, Morten says: “Don’t worry about me. Find out who you want to be – a process that can be new each and every day. Be good servants of nature, the very basis of our existence, and care for the environment while it is still possible to do so. Spend your energy and effort addressing real problems, and know that I am being taken care of.”
a-ha have released 11 studio albums since 1985 and Morten has put out six solo albums, the last being 2014’s Brother. SDE wishes him the best in his ongoing treatment.

Paul McCartneyis releasing a fourth batch of albums as limited edition Japanese mini-LP SHM-CDs (compatible with all CD players).
This batch are made up of three studio albums and two live albums, one of which (Amoeba Gig) started life as an EP before being remixed and expanded for 2019 release).

Paul is Live was issued after Paul’s New World Tour and featured material from the then recent Off The Ground albums alongside Beatles and Wings hits. Flaming Pie was McCartney’s well received 1997 studio album, which is the last album to be reissued as part of Archive Collection, way back in 2020.
Chaos and Creation in the Backyard hasn’t been reissued and is arguably Paul’s last truly great – and consistent – album, even if subsequent releases had their moments. New from 2013 does have such moments, one of which is the sublime ‘Alligators’, produced by Mark Ronson. The best track on the album wasn’t selected to be any of the five singles.
Finally, Amoeba Gig has a long history. It was originally a four-track 12-inch release from Paul’s June 2007 appearance at Amoeba Music in California to promote the Memory Almost Full album. Since that time it was expanded to 12-tracks and given away free with the Daily Mail in the UK and eventually in 2019 was remixed and expanded again to 21 tracks. It’s that version that is reissued here.
These are sometimes called ‘paper sleeve’ editions and and each is presented as vinyl replica CDs with the usual exacting standards from Japan including OBI-strip, extra booklet with Japanese lyrics, ‘rice paper’ sleeve for disc protection and re-sealable outer clear clear sleeve. Original inner sleeves are recreated as is the original packaging. All of these are gatefolds, except Amoeba Gig.
