Jethro Tull / M.U – The Best Of Jethro Tull

1976 hits album reissued on half-speed mastered vinyl

1976 ‘greatest hits’ collection returns to vinyl

Jethro Tull’s 1976 compilation M.U – The Best Of Jethro Tull will be reissued on vinyl in July.

M.U. (an abbreviation of ‘musician’s union’) was the prog giants’ first ‘Best Of’ album on its initial release, with their previous compilation, 1972’s Living In The Past focusing on rare or previously unissued material. Still, it wasn’t entirely straightforward, with the 11-track, single-disc set featuring a host of alternative mixes, edits and the previously unreleased ‘Rainbow Blues’, an outtake from the sessions for 1974’s War Child, making it an essential purchase for Tull completists.

Though second-hand copies aren’t especially pricey or difficult to track down, this will be the first European vinyl reissue for almost 30 years. It’s been overseen by Ian Anderson and cut at half-speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road from the master.

The release is part of ‘Spirit Of ’76’, a new campaign from Warners which will see 23 albums from 1976 reissued, including Al Stewart’s Year Of The Cat, Black Sabbath’s Technical Ecstasy, Flamin’ GrooviesShake Some Action, the self-titled debut album by Ramones, Linda Ronstadt’s Hasten Down The Wind and Todd Rundgren’s Faithful.

M.U – The Best Of Jethro Tull will be released on 31 July 2026 via Warner Records.
