More Coco! Supergrass debut to be reissued as an anniversary deluxe

ishouldcoco

Gaz Coombes has confirmed that Supergrass‘ 1995 debut album I Should Coco will be reissued as a 20th anniversary deluxe edition this year.

In an interview with French site lesinrocks.com to promote his new solo album Matador, Coombes acknowledged that it was an album he was “still very proud of” and as well as confirming that they would ‘mark’ the occasion, he ruled out getting back together even for a single gig due to the fact that the band only split five years ago and people hadn’t had time “to really miss us”.

We will hopefully see some unreleased music with the reissue but if not, there is still some quality non-album material from the era to include, such as a fantastic acoustic rendition of debut single Caught By The Fuzz, Lenny B-side Wait For The Sun and their version of the Mickey Newbury penned song Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) – simply called Condition when it was included on the CD single of Alright/Time.

The I Should Coco reissue is expected before the summer.

What would really kill is if they got off their asses and released the Supergrass back catalogue on vinyl in this lifetime while some folks are still into their music.

Great news! I have the first three albums, and still listen to them all the time, but none of the early singles. In fact, I just picked up ‘Life on Other Planets’ second hand yesterday – just about to give it its first spin!

Such good news! A brilliant band with a great back catalogue. I would love to hear all 35 tracks as I only have a few of the old CD singles. Looking forward to tonnes of good releases this year as ’95 was a brilliant year for music.

Great news. And I can definitely recommend the new album too – it’s terrific. I was also lucky enough to see Gaz play a solo set last week in Manchester – for an audience of (at a guess) 300 – and he is definitely one of those artists who can really bring it – his voice is beautiful – if you get the chance – go and see him. Looking forwards to more details on this re-release.

The live version of Strange Ones from Glasgow is superb. It was also the B-Side to Going Out.

So glad to read about this and for an album that deserves it. I collected every release they came out with back then so there is definitely a lot of great extras from the era to include. They never made a bad album in my opinion and In It For The Money was just as good but in a different vein. Hopefully that release will get a similar treatment.

I remember seeing Supergrass in a local pub before this album came out. It was a double header with the Bluetones and I bought the tickets in a record shop. When I and the mate I took with me got there the queue was massive and we started to walk to the back. Halfway back I bumped into someone I’d gone to school with and he told me all the people in the queue never had tickets! We then went back to the front and had to be lifted over the crowds by the burly doormen!

Good story!

Anyone else confuse Gaz Coombes with Cass McCombs?

Great debut that I played loads in the long hot summer of 1995. Short and sharp.

great news, one of the best bands of the 90s. totally underrated. mind that “It it for the money” from 1997 is like coco in space and it’s even better than their mind-blowing debut. wonder if there are any chances for vinyl reissues…

Michel D.

there is also live tracks on a rare Japanes cd single (or ep), I think it’s “Alright”, can’t check my collection since I’m at work right now.

Vinyl? I could use some Supergrass vinyl reissues!

Saucy Suzie

They indeed need to release all of their albums on vinyl already! Fuck the $80 eBay imports.
