Soft rock titans’ glory years reissued

The latest Supertramp half-speed vinyl reissues have been announced. Even In The Quietest Moments (1977), Breakfast In America (1979) and Famous Last Words (1982) have been remastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios and will be released in March. 

The three reissues – all on 180g black vinyl – continue the series of half-speed remasters which began in July 2025 with the pairing of 1974’s commercial breakthrough Crime Of The Century and the following year’s patchy Crisis? What Crisis?.

The vinyl reissues are part of the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the ‘classic’ Supertramp line-up – Roger Hodgson, Rick Davies, Dougie Thomson, John Helliwell and Bob Seibenberg. The decade that this line-up stayed together was transformative for the band. By the time of the massive-selling Breakfast In America (22 million sold and 88 consecutive weeks in the US Billboard 200), their early prog leanings had been cast aside in favour of naggingly catchy soft rock, seemingly custom-built to dominate the airwaves (‘The Logical Song’, ‘Goodbye Stranger’. ‘Take The Long Way Home’). 

It’s not the first time Supertramp’s chart-conquering years have been spruced up for audiophiles. Even In The Quietest Moments and Breakfast In America were remastered at half-speed for A&M’s Audiophile Series (pressed in Japan by JVC, distributed in Canada) back in the late ’70s/early ’80s. Even In The Quietest Moments was issued on the short-lived Sweet Thunder label back in ’82 and Breakfast In America was given the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab vinyl treatment in ’82 and 2018. Meanwhile, Famous Last Words was released in the US as part of A&M’s Europadisk series in ’82. Supertramp die-hards are encouraged to list further audiophile pressings in the comments below…
