Paul McCartney / Egypt Station deluxe 2LP coloured vinyl edition

Here’s a look at the deluxe coloured 2LP vinyl edition of Paul McCartneys forthcoming album Egypt Station.

As you can see (click on the image to enlarge) this comes with blue and orange 180g vinyl records and is a “concertina gatefold package” with a fold out insert. This deluxe packaging is available as a double black vinyl as well (the standard 2LP black vinyl is two records in a non-gatefold sleeve).

This package is exclusive to Paul McCartney’s official channels (uDiscoverMusic etc.) although the black vinyl is widely available. Since SDE last updated you about the various Egypt Station formats MPL have pulled the single LP coloured vinyl, which appeared to be an error. So there is only one coloured vinyl edition and it’s this double LP set.

We still have no idea what will be in the super deluxe edition box set, but you’ll be the first to know once SDE has it confirmed.

The £40 price tag for this double vinyl set has raised eyebrows and MPL still haven’t officially released a track listing for the album which is out in less than a month, although the box set will almost certainly arrive later in the year.

Egypt Station will be released on 7 September 2018.

  1. Dear Lord! Had the Black Friday 7″ in my basket and when hit the PayPal button it said ‘sold out’. Do I really have to give my hard earned money to those bl**dy ebay and discogs touts?

  2. Paul any idea how to tell the difference between the coloured vinyl edition? Received today the standard and deluxe edition. Without opening there is no obivious difference. Same tracks, same order number, even the sticker on the cover is the same “strictly limited deluxe edition – 180 audiophile double vinyl with concertina sleeve – one time pressing” ..

  3. Am I right in thinking that the deluxe vinyl version is the orange/blue vinyl and that the standard vinyl is black? Or is there also a black vinyl deluxe version as well? I ordered the deluxe orange/blue vinyl version from Germany (Bravado) because it was sold out on McCartney’s official store and on the uDiscover store. Wondering if the deluxe vinyl version that is in plentiful supply in my local HMV is coloured vinyl? There’s nothing on the shrink wrap to indicate that it is, but there is nothing on the shrink wrap on the one I bought from Germany that indicates is coloured vinyl (which it is).
And just for good measure, as well as the Barnes and Noble red and Spotify Green vinyl version, McCartney’s Twitter account has just tweeted that its also now available on cassette…but only from his North American store as far as I can tell…

    1. Iain,

Saw on a Beatlesblog that the cassette is only(presently) available from his US site. 8 track to follow(lol).
Paul (Sinclair) kindly posted a few weeks ago the various formats on both disc and vinyl

    2. Iain,

Just checked the Spotify thread and Paul Sinclair listed the black vinyl as being available as standard and deluxe. I’d imagine the difference would be that the deluxe version has the concertina fold out cover

  5. MYSTERY SOLVED (I think). There is NO Standard Coloured Vinyl. The uDiscover/McCartney online store Product numbers for the Standard Coloured Vinyl and the Deluxe Coloured Vinyl are the SAME (6776769). So the Standard Coloured Vinyl does not exist and if you (like me) ordered that format you will receive the Deluxe Coloured Vinyl (it has a sticker over the barcode on the rear of the sleeve) like I have done! Panic over, the world can start revolving as normal once more. Incidentally if you ordered the black vinyl it is not released until 5/10/18. Ta.

      1. I wish i’d noticed the Product numbers were the same when I had ordered it, but a little mystery to be solved does no harm to keep the brain ticking over!

    1. Mine arrived today same sicker over the bar code 6 02567 78737 2
I have opened it the sticker under the cellophane is 6 02567 54504 0
And the vinyl inside is orange and blue, there is also a download card for the mp3’s 16 songs. Plus a lovely fold out lyrics sheet, very pleased

  6. I have received my order (I ordered the supposed non existant standard ‘COLOURED’ vinyl) from Digital Stores. I have received the STICTLY LIMITED DELUXE EDITION (as per front hype sticker) Concertina Sleeve Vinyl. I have not (and probably won’t as I have the HMV CD) opened it yet. However, there is a sticker on the rear of the sleeve over the barcode with this barcode number on it:- 60256787372. So do I have the deluxe coloured vinyl then? It appears I may have. This comment is to see if other’s have received the same copy of this release and if you are opening yours, please tell me what colour the vinyl is. Cheers. Colin.

  7. Paul,

Are you aware of any delay to the original release date here in the UK. Udiscover and thesoundofvinyl are now showing 5/10 as the release date.

    1. Hi Hendry, The release date for the vinyl LP always has been 5/10/18, although for some odd reason some retailers (i.e. What Records) are showing the release date for the Limited Deluxe Gatefold 180gram Vinyl 2LP Set as 7/9/18 – I ordered 1 x Egypt Station Standard Coloured Vinyl (Double Vinyl LP) (the one that is no longer for sale) from uDiscover and have been told by them “We have checked this for you and the Egypt Station Standard Vinyl (note they don’t say coloured as in order description above) has been removed from the website as it is now sold out. We are currently waiting for more information regarding this and we will let you know if the item will not be available”

Why have different release dates for the cd and vinyl? Very odd. Bit of a shambles really. Things like this are so easy to get right, but often it goes the opposite way!

Only time will tell as to which (if any) version of the Vinyl I will get. Of course if I/we do get a Standard LP Coloured version I will be the first to come on here and say I got it wrong and all is good with the world again! (Could do without the hassle in between though!)

      1. Cheers Colin. Got an email today that the deluxe coloured vinyl has been despatched by Udiscover. Just waiting on the postman ringing the door bell(lol)

  8. Looks like we in the antipodes will need to wait a little longer for our physical product(s)! This email just sent out from Sir Thumbsaloft’s web site:

Thank you for purchasing ‘Egypt Station’ on vinyl!
Due to an international shipping delay your vinyl will now arrive mid September.
We don’t want you to miss out on hearing Paul’s new music
so you will receive a digital download of the album on release day.

Yay! A digital version of a physical product offered via a digital means (Spotify…).

    Wicked.

  9. Leaving aside the quality of the music of the three tracks we have heard so far, am I alone in feeling slightly uneasy about the fact that two of them seem to be Sir Paul, married and 76 years old, trying to persuade women he has just met to sleep with him? Don’t know if it means anything about the state of his marriage – I Don’t Know doesn’t sound as if all is going brilliantly well either – it feels a bit sleazy to me.

  10. Back to the music for a little while. A third tune is now on his youtube channel, the very aptly named ‘Fuh You’ :

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYnI–eSbnc

To me it’s further proof that Greg Kurstin was in awe and couldn’t say no to Paul. This wouldn’t have been track 4 on the last single from an album on a CD2 single in the 90s. What’s is he playing at trying to right a absolute banal, forumlae modern day hit? Did he not get enough kicks out of FourFive Seconds and letting Kanye straight steal his 2 fingers melody (those 2 fingers seem quite apt back at ya Paul after hearing this).

He could’ve got away with this as trance/chillout track as the fireman, in fact, it might have worked pretty well, but this is wrong, just plain wrong. I hope there’s a few brilliant tracks on here otherwise I’ll be turning new Paul off completely. I’m already out on trying to get any future concert tickets after MPL let Ticketmaster do everyone over on his December UK dates.

I think this release is going to be slated in the more serious music press for Paul trying to be too modern, when his contemporaries release albums that are true to their own style. Go and look at David Crosby, Eric Clapton and Ray Davies releases Paul McCartney.

    1. Oops, this is the Ryan Tedder produced track!

Same rules apply. Having heard it a few times there’s a ‘Dance Tonight’ simplicity that could have shone on this, but lost due to modern production. (He could just as easily have changed Fuh to Love). He should get Paul Waaktaar to produce him, i’m convinced he’d find the gem in his writing and give him a modern sound without being a copycat to the crap in the charts.

  11. Update from Macca!

    Egypt Station Egypt Station Tracklist:

    1. Opening Station
    2. I Don’t Know
    3. Come On To Me
    4. Happy With You
    5. Who Cares
    6. Fuh You
    7. Confidante
    8. People Want Peace
    9. Hand In Hand
    10. Dominoes
    11. Back In Brazil
    12. Do It Now
    13. Caesar Rock
    14. Despite Repeated Warnings
    15. Station II
    16. Hunt You Down/Naked/C-Link

  12. Colin: Thanks for the update. I’m now even more confused! (not your fault). Was there ever a single disc colour version on offer? I thought it was a double disc in a single sleeve – as opposed to the double disc in a triple sleeve. Really, this whole marketing thing is a disaster. McCartney should change his record company. Oh, just a minute …..

  13. Update on the single disc version of the coloured vinyl from uDiscover;

    Thank you for your email.

We have checked this for you and the Egypt Station Standard Vinyl has been removed from the website as it is now sold out. [THIS WOULD SUGGEST THOSE WHO ORDERED IT WILL STILL GET IT]

We are currently waiting for more information regarding this and we will let you know if the item will not be available. [SO MAYBE NOT THEN!]

If we are unable to fulfil this part of your order you will not be charged for this. [GOOD TO KNOW BUT NOW THE DOUBLE COLOURED VINYL (same price as the single disc) IS NOW SOLD OUT, SO PROBABLY END UP WITH NEITHER – GRRRRRR]

If we can be of any further assistance please let us know. [WELL, YES SEND ME A DOUBLE VINYL VERSION]

    Kind regards,

I can see this not ending well!

  14. Hi Nick, Sorry to be bearer of bad news but B&N DO NOT ship to UK. I have just had this confirmed via ‘Live Chat’ with one of their online assistants. Here is the reason.

Jonah: I’m sorry but we are no longer supporting accounts for EU residents. Going forward, countries in the European Union (EU) will no longer be available to select in the billing or shipping address when placing orders on BN.com.

This may change after BREXIT, we will have to wait and see!

    1. Strange, I received a couple of LPs from Barnes & Noble last week and Just ordered some LPs from them now with No Problems !

I checked out fine and they are shipping them to the U.K.!

      1. Hi Nick,

I asked B&N again and got an almost immediate reply refering me to a page on their site that stated the following.

Removal of European Union Addresses from BN.com

We are no longer supporting accounts for EU residents. Going forward, countries in the European Union (EU) will no longer be available to select in the billing or shipping address when placing orders on BN.com.

The following countries are no longer available to select on BN.com:
        Austria
        Italy
        Belgium
        Latvia
        Bulgaria
        Lithuania
        Croatia
        Luxembourg
        Cyprus
        Malta
        Czech Republic
        Netherlands
        Denmark
        Poland
        Estonia
        Portugal
        Finland
        Romania
        France
        Slovakia
        Germany
        Slovenia
        Greece
        Spain
        Hungary
        Sweden
        Ireland
        United Kingdom

So if you could please tell me how you managed to get your orders delivered to a UK address Nick that would be great.
I am trying to order the McCartney Red Vinyl and a Paul Simon Blue Vinyl both released on this Friday 7.9.18, although some sites have one of the McCcartney releases as OCTOBER?

ps when paying for your items and checking out did you just pay via Paypal as you can’t enter a UK address in the shipping or billing part of an order?

        Cheers again, Colin.

      2. Happy to say you are quite correct Nick. I have received 2 vinyls from B&N today. It seems if you just pay via paypal they ship to your paypal address but you can’t register on their site with a UK address. Problem Solved.

  15. I have the two early release tracks and have only played them like twice. Very forgettable. We’ll see what the whole album contains, but so far the two songs are dull. Whereas, the two early release Elvis Costello songs that I own, I’ve been listening to every morning, and those are getting me excited. I usually like everything McCartney, but so far I can not get into the two early release songs. :(

    1. Of course it isn’t. He might as well just include a note for everyone over at the Steve Hoffman boards thanking them for listening, since they’ll be the only people to play it more than once.

  16. Hey Paul, any chance you could include Australian Amazon in your compare prices section (where available)? As long as I’m purchasing music and looking at your fantastic site, I’ll always be sore about the AU govt cutting us off from all the international Amazons. Cheers!

  17. I am a huge fan and looking forward to his Vienna Show in December – but what a mess regarding this release! So Paul, It seems there are two coloured versions (including the Barnes and Noble Red Version) and two standard versions, ome of them being the „Concertina TriFold“?

    1. Yeah, what a bloody palaver! Just release it on standard CD and vinyl and be done with it. The music itself does seem to be a secondary consideration for collectors.

  18. To Jeremy/Paul and all PM fans. I too ordered the Standard Coloured Vinyl, which is no longer for sale on the site. I have sent them an email asking which version I will receive. The Deluxe Coloured vinyl is the SAME PRICE (£39.99 + £3.95 P&P = £43.94) as the standard coloured vinyl was when I ordered it. I will let you know when I get a reply from uDiscover Music Store!

    1. to Colin Mitchell, i asked the question a little while ago of the paul mccartney store and they definitively said that the standard vinyl was removed because it had sold out, will be asking the same question again now, Paul intimated a while ago that the standard version probably never existed, looks right even more now

  19. All of the umpteen different versions of this, increased now by a special Barnes & Noble edition, illustrate for me the follies of record collecting circa 2018. I sometimes wonder if the music is remembered at all as we (me included) work to chase edition after edition. I’d be much happier with one standard version of every new album.

    1. As it stands the, one version of each of the new McCartney & Suede albums, and I’m a big fan of both, could cost me a combined £90! I’ll splash out now and again for a classic album box (Sgt. Pepper, The Ties That Bind, etc) or a career retrospective (Nazareth) but this is all now getting a bit silly when a new album is marketed in such a way.

    2. I agree umpteen variations of a new LP reminds me of when bands had different track listings & covers, circa 1960’s UK / USA etc.
Of course we now have the internet to thank for informing us of the labels & bands marketing ploys. Yes I still call myself a record collector – but perhaps I should now be a cynical music collector!

      1. It would just figure that they would each have one (not two) song different from each other, making me have to get both just for one song. Also gotta wonder about a Japanese edition, and whatever’s on the Super Deluxe (ugh)

  20. When originally announced there were three vinyl versions (excluding the box set): a standard black vinyl (single sleeve), a standard coloured vinyl (single sleeve), and a deluxe coloured vinyl (tri-sleeve). I ordered the standard coloured vinyl. Now you’re saying there’s no such thing? I’m confused!

    1. That’s my understanding… there is no single sleeve coloured vinyl. They pulled that listing. Might be worth getting in touch to see what they are going to send you!

  21. When this was first announced I pre ordered and paid £63+. Today I received another e mail from uDiscover with a price below £40. One very angry e mail later – a £20 refund into my paypal account. So anyone who paid upfront, you know what to do. I do wonder if they are only doing this on request.

  22. Looks very nice to have on vinyl but the price tag is rather steep for 2 vinyl discs.. perhaps when (or if!) this comes down below £30 then I’d be tempted to buy it. For now, I have had my HMV exclusive CD pre-order in since the day it was announced.

    It’s a good year to be a Beatles fan…

  23. Paul do you know if is this the same coloured vinyl which has been offered right at the start of the announcement of the new record of Paul? Which has been sold out for some time?

        1. Barnes and Noble DO Ship to the U.K. $43.47 / £33.00 including postage to the U.K.
A lot cheaper than McCartney’s rip off store £39.99 plus postage… I’d much prefer the B+N Red than the Over Priced (and Horrible) BLUE/Orange Combination!

          1. …and they no longer ship to UK Paul is what they have told me in more than 1 email. Incidentally one of the few retailers who have the vinyl release date as today 7/9/18
