Talk Talk / The Colour Of Spring half-speed mastered vinyl

40th anniversary vinyl

Reissue of 1986 classic, cut from original tapes at half-speed

The Talk Talk reissue series continues with a half-speed mastered edition of The Colour Of Spring, out in September.

Talk Talk’s third studio album, The Colour Of Spring saw Mark Hollis steer them decisively from the synth-pop that had made their name to a more experimental and organic sound. Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene spent the first four months of 1985 writing material, with Hollis heavily influenced by classical composers such as Bartok, Debussy and Satie. When it came to recording, the decision was made to ban synths and a host of session players were drafted, including Steve Winwood, Danny Thompson and Robbie McIntosh. The results were sublime, a genre-defying sound that marks the mid-point between the pop sensibilities of the band’s earlier work – for all the talk of impressionist classical arrangements, it included the global hit single ‘Life’s What You Make It’ – and the ethereal melancholy that would come with Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock.

In keeping with the recent reissues of It’s My Life and Spirit Of Eden, the original tapes were used for this reissue. It was cut at half-speed by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios on 180gm vinyl and overseen by drummer Lee Harris and Mark Hollis’ son, Charlie. As with the previous reissues in the series, it comes with a neat obi strip.

The Colour Of Spring will be released on 4 September on Parlophone. You can support SDE by pre-ordering this from the SDE shop using this link or the button below.
