Demon Music’s deluxe editions of the output of British indie rockers The Wedding Present have been long in the planning and are finally due for release in October 2014.
Fans will surely agree it’s been worth the wait since each of the eight albums reissued (including compilations Tommy and Hit Parade and the 6-track EP Mini) will be a offered as very generous 3CD+DVD editions. Each set will include a host of additional material including B-sides, demos, radio sessions and live tracks. The DVDs each have promo videos, TV appearances and more. Suzanne Vega’s new Close-Up Series “box set” is out next week and we’ve had an early look (and listen!).
For the uninitiated, since 2008 Vega has been re-recording her back catalogue and creating volumes of ‘themed’ collections. Artistically speaking, this has allowed her to revisit and rework her material (stripping the ‘eighties’ production out of many songs) as well as having the unspoken financial attraction of meaning she owns the master recordings for all these songs.

It appears that The Who‘s 50th anniversary release ambitions lie beyond a simple two-CD Who Hits 50 compilation.
The band are reaching out to fans and collectors to help locate rare and lost recordings from the last five decades. Specifically, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend are looking for rare radio and TV performances, home movies from gigs, extraordinary bootleg material, demos, unusual photos and memorabilia.

David Bowie’s classic Sound + Vision box is being re-released in September.
The set was originally compiled by Rykodisc in 1989 as a launchpad for their Sound + Vision reissue campaign. That version contained three CDs of material spanning 1969-1980 as well as a now defunct CD-Video that had the promo to Ashes To Ashes and some exclusive live audio.

Diana Ross‘s albums recorded during the RCA/EMI era (1981-88) have been expanded for reissue later this year.
Soul, funk and disco reissue specialists Funky Town Grooves have remastered (from the original tapes) all six albums from the period in question, and the releases will either take the form of expanded single disc editions (Why Do Falls Fall In Love, Silk Electric, Ross) or two-CD deluxe editions (Swept Away, Eaten Alive, Red Hot Rhythm and Blues).

As first reported on this Beatles blog, a new George Harrison box set entitled The Apple Years, will be released in the autumn.
The set will feature remastered versions of all seven of George’s Apple LPs, as well as a bonus DVD of which content-wise, little is currently known, although speculation intimates that footage from the 1974 Dark Horse tour will be featured.

Good though the new Venus and Mars and Speed of Sound Wings sets look, if you haven’t bought the RAM deluxe box, you should probably make that a priority!
Despite the let’s-create-a-library extravagance of Wings Over America, the RAM box is better. For a start RAM is one of Paul’s very best post-Beatles records, and the deluxe set is simply very cute, has great content across the five (not three!) discs and is full of cool ‘facsimile’ memorabilia, photos and the all important ‘book of sheep’… The quality of the packaging is really first rate. Edsel Records will issue a T. Rex box set collecting their studio albums later this year.
Details are sketchy but The Album Collection will be a 10CD box and there is a good chance this will be packaged similar to the Suede CD box from earlier this year, or the Leo Sayer set from 2013.

Phase two of the Led Zeppelin archival campaign became a reality today with the official announcement of the deluxe reissues of Led Zeppelin IV and Houses Of The Holy, both due in October.
As before, each album will be available as a single and deluxe two-CD, single or deluxe double 180g vinyl, as well as a top-of-the-range super deluxe edition box set which contains both CDs and both vinyl records and comes with an 80-page hardcover book, hi-res downloads (96kHz/24 bit), and an cover art print (first 30,000 numbered).
