Yes / Close To The Edge Audio Fidelity SACD

Audiophile reissue specialists Audio Fidelity will issue Yes’s 1972 prog-rock classic Close To The Edge as a hybrid SACD (Super Audio CD) on 15 January 2013.

This numbered limited edition has been remastered by the very highly regarded recording engineer Steve Hoffman, so expect great dynamics and an audiophile approach to the sound.

This hybrid disc will play on any CD player at ‘normal’ resolution, with the SACD ‘layer’ providing hi-res audio on SACD compatible hardware. Both layers will use the same new Hoffman remaster. The hi-res is stereo only, no 5.1 surround mix.

American rock band Kiss release The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982 Box Set on 14 Jan 2012. This limited edition set includes all 29 singles released on the legendary Casablanca label.

The band released a total of 29 singles on seven-inch 45-RPM records for the Casablanca label, in their early years. Often, many of these singles had entirely different mixes, edits and material that didn’t appear on their vinyl albums.

This new box set makes this material available in the commemorative singles retrospective that is The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982 box set.

There are two versions of the box, one with 29 CD singles and one with 29 seven-inch vinyl records.

The sets are housed in a die-cut shadow box with a limited edition, etched silver metal plate and ribbon-pull magnetic closure, custom KISS 45s box with 26 collectible picture sleeves from original single releases around the world, including Japan, Germany, Holland, Spain and Britain. The vinyl collection also features singles from all four solo albums in purple, blue, red and green vinyl with a picture sleeve representing each individual member as originally released in the U.K. Both sets also include a booklet which tracks the genesis and chart history of each single represented in the package and four individual KISS masks..

Killing Joke / The Singles Collection Super Deluxe Box

English post-punk band Killing Joke will release a greatest hits set on 15 April 2013 which will be available in three formats. The Singles Collection 1979 – 2012 will be offered as a download, a 3CD set and an exclusive (and expensive) Super Deluxe Edition.

The 3CD set will be a digipack with 33 singles over 2CDs and a bonus disc of unreleased studio recordings on the third disc. This will be a limited release that will revert to a standard 2CD retrospective once the initial 3CD run is sold out.

The Super Deluxe Edition offers the singles as individual CDs with some B-sides in addition to the bonus CD with unreleased studio tracks plus a host various other items.

The super-deluxe limited edition package includes:

  • • a hand-numbered hinge lid ‘cigar box’ made from black lined rigid board finished with matt print retrospective artwork;
  • • 33 career spanning CD singles plus select B-Sides in full colour card wallets featuring original artwork;
  • • a rarities disc including previously unreleased studio tracks;
  • • a 32 page perfect bound book including rare photos, archive notes, band commentary;
  • • a poster designed and hand signed by long time Killing Joke artist, Mike Coles, printed on 250gsm silk art;
  • • an aluminium screw top branded cigar tube containing original wrappers of cigars smoked by Jaz Coleman and Paul Raven during the recording of Hosannas From The Basements Of Hell.

Track listings have not been issued as yet, but this super deluxe box set is only available to pre-order via direct-to-consumer specialist PledgeMusic – the closing date for orders is Monday 4 February 2013 (which allows for production of the box set, with delivery in April).

Fleetwood Mac‘s classic 1977 album Rumours will be reissued on 28 January 2013 (29 Jan for North America and Canada) as a lavish six-disc super deluxe edition box set.

The set will include four CDs, a DVD and a gatefold vinyl edition of the album. Included amongst the content is the bonus disc from the 2004 deluxe edition (disc four in this set) along with a further disc of outtakes and early versions including a Stevie Nicks demo version of The Chain (disc three). A live CD (disc two) and the album proper (disc one) complete the CD line-up. The DVD is an official release of the legendary ‘Rosebud’ film, with documentary footage of the band, and live performances from this era. The vinyl will be a heavyweight 180g pressing.

In addition to this super deluxe edition box set,  a three-CD set will also be available that includes the live CD and the new CD of outtakes and demos (ie not the 2004 disc). As you might expect a simple one-CD reissue will also be issued along with the expanded sets. Pre-order links and full track listings below:

FIRST PICTURES / Blur Parklive 5-disc book edition

This five-disc deluxe book edition of Blur‘s Parklive was released last week. This set celebrates the 12 August 2012 gig in London’s Hyde Park, which was a companion concert to the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics Games.

It comes with 2CDs of the concert audio, and a DVD film of the same gig. Additionally, an exclusive 12-track CD – Blur At The 100 Club – documents their warm gig in the legendary venue earlier in the same month. The final disc is another CD, this time featuring Under The Westway and The Puritan as performed live ‘on twitter’ and further recordings (six tracks) from a warm-up show, this time from Wolverhampton.

The Smashing Pumpkins‘ Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness box sets were released last week, and here are some pictures of the 5CD+DVD super deluxe box edition.

This set comes with two soft back books (one a lyric book) and a massive amount of content across 5CDs and a DVD and a decoupage set (decoupage is the art of decorating surfaces of an object with layers of pictures on shapes).
