After rising to prominence after guesting as a vocalist on the Beatmaster’s ‘Hey DJ – I Can’t Dance (To That Music You’re Playing)’, Betty Boo – real name, Alison Clarkson – released her debut album, Boomania, in September of 1990. The album peaked at number four on the UK album chart, and featured three top-ten singles, including ‘Where Are You Baby’, which reached number three.
This was followed up by 1992’s GRR! It’s Betty Boo, but that album did not enjoy the same level of commercial success as its predecessor, spawning just one UK hit, ‘Let Me Take You There’. It would be Betty Boo’s last studio album before her Boomerang comeback of 2022.
The new reissues are available as 2CD sets (in clamshell boxes), on coloured vinyl and as cassettes. If you are thinking the 2CD sets will be redundant, thanks to the pretty good 2016 Cherry Red editions, think again, since these 2025 re-releases feature a revamped track-listing on each album’s second disc. For example, on the new Boomania 2CD deluxe, the 12-inch version ‘Boo’s Boogie’ doesn’t feature and there are different mixes of ‘Doin’ The Do’, ‘Where Are You Baby’, and ‘Hey DJ’, including a club mix by Clivilles and Cole. The same is true for GRRR! It’s Betty Boo which offers different mixes from the 2016 version for almost every track, baring the twelve-inch version of ‘Jet Set’.
Boomania is available as a magenta vinyl pressing and GRRR It’s Betty Boo will be available on green vinyl. No bonus tracks on the vinyl editions, which is also true of cassette versions that are available. Signed editions are available at the Official Betty Boo Shop, and you don’t have to buy a bundle to get them.
Boomania and GRRR It’s Betty Boo! will be released on 28 March 2025, via Betty Boo Records.
