Deep Purple / Made in Japan 5CD+blu-ray 50th anniversary edition

Deep Purple / Made in Japan CD, Vinyl

Deep Purple’s classic 1972 live album Made In Japan is reissued as 5CD+Blu-ray and 10LP boxsets featuring newly remixed versions of all three of its concerts, plus both stereo and Atmos mixes by
Steven Wilson.

Be-Bop Deluxe / The Albums 1974-1976 (3CD set)

The Albums 1974-1976 is a 3CD clamshell box set that includes Be-Bop Deluxe’s first three studio albums: 1974’s Axe Victim, the Roy Thomas Baker produced Futurama (1975) and Sunburst Finish from 1976. Comes with a booklet.

The Cranberries / No Need to Argue (30th anniversary)

The CranberriesNo Need to Argue anniversary release is available as a 2CD set or as a 2LP vinyl package. Both feature the same 9 bonus tracks, including an unreleased demo of ‘Zombie’ and a few tracks from Woodstock in 1994. Stephen Street (the original producer) has remastered the album and there’s actually also a single LP and single CD version without the extras.

The Pretenders / The Singles (2LP vinyl)

The 1987 Pretenders ‘best of’ is reissued as a 2LP set. It features the 2018 remasters by Chris Thomas except for the tracks from Get Close, which are brand new remasters!

Coldplay / Parachutes (clear ‘EcoRecord’)

Coldplay reissue their debut album – and all their album albums – on Eco vinyl. ‘EcoRecord’ is an injection-moulded LP is made entirely from, on average, nine recycled plastic bottles. It has been manufactured using 100% recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate), instead of PVC. Consumers are promised no degradation in sound quality. If you aren’t sold on the Eco credentials, all the single LPs are under £25 which pretty competitive these days.

SDE Surround Series – Summer update!

For those of you who are interested in the SDE Surround Series blu-rays, I wanted to give you a update as to where we are and where we are going as we head towards September and the start of Autumn in 2025.

So far this year we have announced 11 titles, only two of which – Matt Deighton’s Today Become Forever (#44) and Mark Knopfler’s Sailing to Philadelphia (#45) have not shipped. They are both released in next month (5th and 26th of September, respectively). Matt’s album is limited to 1000 units and is still available, although there are not too many left.

So far as the rest of the year is concerned, I have good news and bad news. The very good news is that there are many more blu-rays to come, probably at least another 10 titles! We’ve been working hard in the background and have got some fantastic albums lined up, including chart-toppers from the 1980s, rock classics from the 1970s and a few surprises. That’s the good news, the ‘bad’ news is that these are going to come thick and fast.

Let me explain: Our label partners decide on the announcement date and the release date of the reissue campaign of which the SDE blu-ray is part. SDE is not in control of this aspect, and although we try to influence things where possible, we mostly have to go with the flow. Normally this works okay in less busy times of the year, but in the music industry’s always busy ‘Q4’ period, that is going to be more of a challenge, especially when we are working with multiple labels.

What does all this mean? It means that there may be times in the next few months where announcements follow each other much more closely than normal. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to tell you in advance of the schedule, largely due to respecting the confidentiality of our label partners, but also because we often get very late notice of announcement dates, anyway. It will likely get complicated with pre-order windows overlapping and closing in close succession.

BEST ADVICE: If you want something, just put a pre-order in early and secure your copy. You can always check what you have on order by going to account section of thesdeshop.com and signing in by putting in the email address you used to order any items. On that subject, try not use different email addresses to order via the SDE shop. If you do that multiple accounts get set up in the background and when you log in to one of them, it will look like items are ‘missing’ from your pre-ordered items, when actually they are listed under another account with some other email address you once used!

The SDE shop customer services team are always very happy to hear from you and to help if you need to get in touch (via contact@thesdeshop.com) to discuss any pre-orders or issues. As has always been the case, we cannot combine pre-orders, I’m afraid.

In summary, I like to think we will look back on this period as a golden age for immersive and surround audio on physical formats and I’m proud of the role that SDE has played in this, with the SDE Surround Series. Who knows how long it will last, so my philosophy is let’s all try and enjoy it and make the most of it while we can! Working in the background on these releases, can at times be frustrating, and often exhausting, but mostly it’s a real pleasure and as we approach our half-century in this series, I still get a real kick out of announcing each new title and hoping to delight you and exceed your expectations, with the content on these exclusive blu-rays.

Thanks, as always, for all your support and we look forward to the next announcement (which will be quite soon).

Bryan Ferry / Avonmore & Frantic reissues

BMG will reissue two more Bryan Ferry albums in September. The long-players in question are Frantic from 2002 and Avonmore from 2014.

Frantic combines originals such as ‘A Fool for Love’ and ‘San Simeon’ alongside some covers of Bob Dylan and Lead Belly songs, with guest appearances from Brian Eno and Johnny Marr. Because it was issued in the early ‘noughties’, this album actually got a multi-channel release on DVD-Audio at the time (I have a copy). Frantic gets a slightly revised front cover for this campaign.

Although there’s 12 years between them, Ferry only issued three albums in between Frantic and Avonmore (two if you don’t count The Jazz Age, on which he doesn’t perform). Avonmore was well received with Bryan again working with his longtime producer Rhett Davies . Johnny Marr is back again and Nile Rodgers plays on many tracks. Songs include ‘Loop De Li’, ‘Driving Me Wild’ and the cover of Robert Palmer’s ‘Johnny and Mary’.

Frantic is reissued on blue vinyl while Avonmore is pressed on red vinyl for this reissue campaign. Both are released on CD in Japanese style vinyl replica presentations.

Frantic and Avonmore will be released on 19 September 2025, via BMG.

The Frantic reissue features revised artwork

David Gilmour / Live at the Circus Maximus and The Luck and Strange Concerts

David Gilmour will release a concert film and live album of his 2024 Luck and Strange tour, in October.

Live at the Circus Maximus is the concert film which runs for 142 minutes and is available either as a 2xblu-ray or 3xDVD set. The blu-rays features a Dolby Atmos soundtrack alongside 5.1 and 96/24 audio.

2 x blu-ray set of ‘Live at the Circus Maximus’

The live album is called The Luck and Strange Concerts and features audio recorded at selected shows from the tour and blends solo tracks from David’s most recent album as well as classic Pink Floyd anthems such as ‘Sorrow’, ‘High Hopes’, ‘Breathe (In The Air)’, ‘Time’, ‘Wish You Were Here’, and ‘Comfortably Numb’.

This is available as a 4LP vinyl box set, on 2CD. Note, that the audio for this live album is also available in the 2xblu-ray with Atmos, 5.1 and 96/24 stereo (just like the concert film). Both video formats also offer video of rehearsals, documentaries and promo videos.

Perhaps inevitably, there’s a massive super deluxe edition box set (direct-to-consumer only) which brings together ALL of the above formats and adds a 120-page book of photos by Polly Samson taken on the tour. This comes in a “custom made” box. Yours for £336!

OMD / Crush 40th anniversary

OMD’s 1985 album Crush, will be reissued for its 40th anniversary in October.

The band’s sixth album features the singles ‘So In Love,’ and ‘Secret’, with the former reaching the top 30 of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

The album will be reissued as a 2CD deluxe edition featuring seven previously unreleased tracks newly mixed from the multi-tracks. These include four unheard songs. Additionally there’s B-sides and remixes.

The 40th anniversary re-release of Crush has been a wonderful opportunity for us to re-assess the album. 1985 was a period of great intensity with constant touring and time pressure in the studio, but we created a powerful collection of songs and lyrical themes. In hindsight, we made a much better album than we knew at the time. Two hit singles ‘So in Love’ and ‘Secret’ remain live set constants to this day.

Andy McCluskey

The 2LP vinyl edition also features the seven unreleased tracks, but not the B-sides. The standard extended mix of ‘So In Love’ is also omitted. Both formats include rare photos and comprehensive notes by journalist and author Jason Draper in conversation with Andy McCluskey.

Crush will be reissued on 10 October 2025, via UMR / Virgin.

Madonna’s Veronica Electronica coming to CD

CD edition and a new vinyl version due later this year

Madonna’s Veronica Electronica EP, or mini-album, or whatever you want to call it, was released yesterday on ‘silver’ coloured vinyl and Warners have just announced a CD version for later this year.

This Ray of Light remix project was shelved back in 1998, thanks to the success of the album and singles at the time, but has finally emerged this week. When it was announced in June there were plenty of grumbles about the lack of CD version and it appears that Warner Music has listened and has now scheduled a CD version (in gatefold CD wallet). The bad news is that you have to wait until October for it.

They have also decided to press another vinyl edition. This time Veronica Electronica will be pressed on “ultra clear” vinyl, rather than silver. However, it will come in the same silver printed mylar jacket (it’s not clear whether they will use this for the CD) which looks great in the flesh.

Veronica Electronica will be released on CD and re-released on vinyl on 10 October, via Warner Music. The Amazon UK links are not live yet, in case you are wondering.

XTC / Drums and Wires CD+blu-ray with Dolby Atmos Mix

XTC’s 1979 album Drums and Wires is being reissued in September as a new CD+blu-ray edition with a new Dolby Atmos Mix from Steven Wilson, an updated 5.1 Mix (originally created in 2014) and a host of other extras.

The CD features the original 2014 Steven Wilson stereo mix of the album, with minor revisions for 2025, along with singles and additional tracks. The Blu-ray features:

  • 2025 Dolby Atmos versions of the album and additional tracks
  • 2014 5.1 Mix of the album (with minor revisions for 2025) and additional tracks
  • 96/24 LPCM Stereo of album and additional tracks
  • 1979 original mix/master of full album in 96/24 plus additional tracks
  • A vast amount of additional material including all available demo, rehearsal & pre-album sessions recordings
Back of the CD+blu-ray lays out the content

Steven has again worked his magic and offered a new perspective of our ground-breaking 1979 album, expanding the audio picture through 360° and revealing details previously overlooked. The whole album shimmers with a sonic gloss that’s brought it to the 21st century with no loss of historic integrity; the songs are as strong today as they were 46 years ago. Immerse yourself, but be prepared for the closing maelstrom that is ‘Complicated Game’…you may never recover.

Dave Gregory

Interestingly, Steven Wilson has stated that “during the remix process it became apparent that the masters of ‘Officer Blue‘ [a B-side] and ‘That is the Way‘ were both slowed down significantly for the original release. It’s not uncommon for tracks to be slightly speeded up during mastering to make them sound sprightlier, but no one could remember why, in this case, the tracks were slowed down. For the 2025 mixes, in consultation with Colin Moulding – songwriter of both titles – the decision was made to include B-side ‘Officer Blue’ as the band recorded it, at the correct speed for the first time”.

Steven added that “In the case of ‘That is the Way’ – it being a key album track – the new mix has been slowed down to match the familiar album version but additionally, a bonus version is included which has no adjustment to the pitch and is exactly as the band recorded it”.

The album was originally produced by Steve Lillywhite but 2025 & 2014 material is mixed & produced by Steven Wilson. This CD+blu-ray set is presented in ‘paper sleeve’ / mini-LP CD / vinyl replica packaging with booklet including photos & album lyrics.

In addition to this format, Steven’s 2014 mix (with the minor revisions) is available for the first time on vinyl – a 200g LP pressing at that.

Drums and Wires will be released by APE records on 26 September 2025. You can pre-order both the CD+blu-ray and the vinyl LP from the SDE shop, via this link or the buttons below. A specially-priced bundle is also available.

Buckingham Nicks album officially reissued on vinyl and CD

1973 album finally reissued • Remastered • CD • Various coloured vinyl

Buckingham Nicks, the only studio album by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks as a duo, will be reissued for the first time in September.

Released in 1973, the 10-track album was recorded at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles and was produced by Keith Olsen. Famously, in late 1974, Mick Fleetwood visited Sound City while scouting studios to record Fleetwood Mac’s next album and Olsen played him ‘Frozen Love’. This resulted in an offer from Mick for Buckingham to join Fleetwood Mac, which of course happened but Lindsey insisted that Stevie Nicks come too!

Buckingham Nicks will be available on CD – for the first time –  and on ‘baby blue’ coloured vinyl, an Amazon exclusive yellow coloured vinyl and a Rhino exclusive High Fidelity pressing. The audio has been sourced from the original analog master tapes for its CD and vinyl release (remastered by Chris Bellman).

Buckingham Nicks will be released on 19 September via Rhino.

Tom Petty / Somewhere You Feel Free – The Making of Wildflowers

The 2021 Tom Petty documentary, Somewhere You Feel Free – The Making of Wildflowers, will be released on blu-ray, in September.

In early 2020, a collection of 16mm film was discovered in Petty’s archive, including unseen footage captured during the making of his 1994 album Wildflowers. The 90-minute film shows Tom at work with producer Rick Rubin, and also includes interviews with Rubin, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and Petty’s daughter Adria.

The film is currently actually on Youtube in its entirety (I imagine that may well get taken down soon) but the blu-ray will include 30 minutes of bonus content featuring outtakes from the documentary and four promotional videos from 2020.

Somewhere You Feel Free – The Making of Wildflowers will be released on 12 September 2025, via Warner Records.

Ozzy Osbourne dies aged 76

Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76.

The Osbourne family released the following statement: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

‘The Prince of Darkness’ performed his final concert with Black Sabbath just over two weeks ago, on 5 July, and the venue was appropriate: Villa Park in Birmingham, Osbourne’s hometown! He needed to be seated for the show due to the Parkinson’s disease he was diagnosed with in 2019.

Ozzy was lead vocalist on eight Black Sabbath albums from 1970 to 1978 and in 1980 kicked off his solo career with Blizzard of Ozz. He released 12 more studio albums and found time for a 2013 Sabbath studio album called 13.

Ozzy went on to achieve a wider celebrity status, beyond music fans, early in the Millennium thanks to the reality show The Osbournes, which became a massive hit for MTV and ran for three years (between 2002 and 2005).

Mark Knopfler / Sailing to Philadelphia 25th anniversary reissue

SDE exclusive blu-ray with Dolby Atmos, Instrumentals & Hi-Res Stereo • Plus 2LP clear vinyl edition •  Quick Pre-order at the SDE shop

Mark Knopfler’s second solo album, Sailing to Philadelphia, is being reissued on standalone vinyl for the first time in September and will also be released as an SDE exclusive blu-ray featuring a Dolby Atmos Mix.

Issued in September 2000, the 60-minute album includes purposeful lead single ‘What It Is‘, the fine storytelling of the title track (a duet with James Taylor), ‘The Last Laugh’ which features additional vocals from Van Morrison and ‘Silvertown Blues’ (which was the third and final single from the album). The album also features guest appearances from Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze.

A new 2LP clear vinyl pressing will be available, while the blu-ray features a Dolby Atmos Mix by Guy Fletcher, an exclusive instrumental version of the album, also in Atmos, as well as the original stereo mix. Both formats feature 14 songs, based on the original UK CD tracklisting, which featured ‘Do America’ (omitted from the International release) and ‘One More Matinee’ (missing from the US release).

Audio streams on the Sailing to Philadelphia SDE exclusive blu-ray:

  • Dolby Atmos Mix (48/24)
  • Dolby Atmos Instrumental Mix (48/24)
  • Original Stereo Mix (48/24)

This Sailing to Philadelpha release is a region-free blu-ray audio and is #45 in the ongoing SDE Surround Series. It will be packaged similarly in a clear amaray case and ships with a FREE, collectible SDE Surround Series slipcase.

Mark Knopfler talks about the song ‘Sailing to Philadelphia’ to Brian Johnson in 2021

Here’s the now traditional reminder as to why these exclusive SDE blu-rays come recommended:

  • It’s the only way to enjoy the Dolby Atmos mix of the album via a physical product
  • You don’t need to sign-up to a streaming service such as Tidal or Apple Music to hear the spatial audio mix
  • The Atmos Mix on the Blu-ray is not compressed due to streaming bandwidth restrictions. The Dolby Atmos version on a Blu-ray is encoded in Dolby TrueHD Atmos has a bit rate 10 times higher (up to 8000 kbits/s) compared to streaming’s Dolby Digital Plus (768 kbits/s)
  • You own the product, you are not renting it from a digital service provider
  • The Blu-ray audio is an excellent format for music and you don’t want to see it die off
  • Supporting SDE with these initiatives has lead to many similar collaborations with labels/artists and we are keen to bring you more in the future!

The Sailing to Philadelpha blu-ray is a limited edition and has a 14 day pre-order window, which closes on Tuesday 5 August 2025. Availability cannot be guaranteed after that date. The vinyl is also described as ‘limited’. Terry Hall / Laugh deluxe editions

Terry Hall’s second album, Laugh, will be reissued in September.

Released in 1997, this was the follow up to Home which had been issued three years earlier. Much of Laugh was co-written with former Smiths guitarist Craig Gannon and includes further collaborations with Stephen Duffy, Damon Albarn and Sean O’Hagan (of The High Llamas).

This new version is released as a 2CD set with alternate cover sleeve, in seven-inch packaging, with a bonus CD featuring seven tracks. These are the same bonus tracks that were included back in 2009 when Edsel also issued a 2CD set of the album, although they have been newly remastered by Phil Kinrade for this release. Actually, this 2025 version offers one track less, because it omits the interview (originally on the ‘Ballad of a Landlord’ single) that featured on the deluxe set 16 years ago. Pete Paphides contributes notes.

The new 2CD edition of ‘Laugh’

There’s also a black vinyl edition of Laugh available (Demon actually released the album on vinyl back in 2019, three years before Hall’s death) and a ‘Dinked’ 2LP set pressed on red vinyl, with the bonus tracks.

Laugh will be reissued on 19 September 2025, via Demon.
