Elton John’s 1975 studio album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy will be reissued across a number of formats for its 50th anniversary, including as an SDE exclusive blu-ray audio with a immersive Dolby Atmos Mix.
His ninth record in six years, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy was a concept album devised with Elton’s longtime collaborator and lyricist Bernie Taupin, telling the chronological story of the early years of Elton (‘Captain Fantastic’) and Bernie’s (‘the Brown Dirt Cowboy’) musical careers in London as they struggled to break through.
Produced by Gus Dudgeon, it features the single “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” and was the first album in history to debut at #1 on the US Billboard 200. It sold 1.4 million copies in its first four days and remained at the top of the chart for 7 weeks.

Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska is expanded and remastered for new 4CD+blu-ray and 4LP+blu-ray deluxe editions.
With identical track listings, these two editions gather unheard material including, on Discs 1 & 2, the fabled ‘Electric Nebraska’ sessions with the E-Street Band and solo home and studio recordings.
Disc 3 features Bruce Springsteen performing the whole of Nebraska live, and in sequence, at the Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, NJ. This was recorded on 22 April this year and was filmed.
The final disc features a new remaster of the original Nebraska album and both box sets come with a blu-ray of the aforementioned, Count Basie Theatre live performance.
Nebraska ’82: Expanded Edition will be released on 24 October 2025, (was 17 October), via Sony/Columbia.

Who Are You, The Who’s eighth studio album, is being reissued across a number of formats, including an SDE exclusive standalone blu-ray audio, in October.
Released in August 1978, the album was a commercial success, peaking at No 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart, where only the soundtrack to the Grease prevented it from hitting the top spot in the USA. The record also reached No 6 in the UK album charts.
Who Are You was the band’s final studio album to feature Keith Moon, who died just three weeks after it was released. The album showcased some of Pete Townshend’s most complicated arrangements, with multiple layers of synthesizer and strings, including songs envisaged for his Townshend’s never realised Lifehouse project.
The first single from the album, the eponymous Who Are You, was a transatlantic top 20 hit and has become over the years a staple in the band’s setlist and decades later gained new audiences when used at the theme tune to US TV’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
Formats in the reissue campaign include a 7CD+blu-ray box set, a 4LP vinyl box, a 2CD edition and various vinyl versions. The box set features previously unreleased Glyn Johns mixes (rejected by the band), early run-throughs, sessions and outtakes, plus unreleased tracks from Shepperton studio rehearsals, live recordings and more. Fly From Here – Return Trip – Yes’ alternative take on their Fly From Here album of 2011 is being reissued on CD, vinyl and Blu-ray Audio with a Dolby Atmos Mix.
The alternative version of the album was released in 2018 and features the classic ‘Drama’ era line- up who were reunited to create a new version featuring all new vocals from Trevor Horn plus new instrumental parts, alongside a more organic mix highlighting Chris Squire’s unique voice and bass contributions as well as additional parts from Steve Howe and Geoff Downes.
The 2LP and CD versions offer some bonus instrumental mixes, but the Blu-ray edition features a new Atmos mix by Richard Whittaker as well as 5.1, Stereo, Atmos Instrumental, 5.1 Instrumental, Stereo instrumental and Original Stereo mixes!!

The Human League’s iconic third studio album, Dare, will be reissued as an SDE exclusive blu-ray audio in October.
Produced by Martin Rushent, Dare was created by a new look Human League line-up that consisted of Philip Oakey (vocals, synthesizer), Jo Callis (synthesizer, guitar), Philip Adrian Wright (visuals, synthesizer), Joanne Catherall (vocals), Susan Ann Sulley (vocals) and Ian Burden (synthesizer).
With the new personnel came a fresh, cutting-edge pop sensibility and the group used this to create an album that was not only an enormous commercial and critical success upon its release, but one which has since been hailed as one of the most groundbreaking records of its time.
The album featured four singles, including UK top 10 hits ‘Love Action (I Believe in Love)’ and ‘Open Your Heart’, as well as the transatlantic No 1 ‘Don’t You Want Me’ (Virgin Records’ first British and American chart-topping single). The album was also No 1 in the UK albums charts and peaked at No 3 in the USA, with The Human League being seen one of the leaders in the so-called Second Invasion of British pop bands in America.
With its hit singles coupled withthe darker tone of some of the album tracks (‘Seconds’, ‘I Am The Law’), Dare’s stature and influence has only grown over time and it is regularly voted one of best albums of the 1980s in music polls. A 3CD+blu-ray edition comes in clamshell box packaging with disc one devoted to the band Toyah with hits such as ‘I Want To Be Free’ and ‘It’s A Mystery’ while the second CD covers Toyah’s career as a solo artist. CD 3 is devoted to rarities, while the blu-ray includes 12 promo videos, 22 TV performances and concert footage.

NOW Music will release a third volume of their ‘Now That’s What I Call An Era’ series next month. Such A Good Feeling: 1988-1995 focuses on the era when dance culture reshaped the mainstream, soundtracked a generation, and lit up the charts across the UK and beyond.

Patti Smith’s debut album Horses is reissued and expanded for its 50th anniversary.
The influential 1975 album has also been remastered direct from the original 1/4” master tapes, and will be available as a 2CD set and on 2LP black vinyl.
Unlike the previous 2CD ‘Legacy’ edition, which featured a live bonus disc, this time we are getting previously unreleased outtakes and rarities, including tracks from Patti Smith’s 1975 RCA audition tape. Eight tracks are previously unreleased. You can hear ‘Snowball’, above.
Horses will be reissued on 10 October 2025, via Sony’s Legacy Recordings.
8CD and 12LP box sets with new ‘Anthology 4’ • Documentary coming to Disney+
The Beatles Anthology arrived in November 1995 as an eight-part TV documentary and three double albums of unreleased outtakes and alternate mixes (released over a 12 month period). Now 30 years on, this landmark examination of The Fab Four returns, offering remastered and remixed audio, restored visuals and new content, in the form of a fresh episode of the documentary and a fourth volume of music available in new 8CD and 12 LP Anthology Collection box sets. The book, issued in 2000, is also being made available again.
New physical music releases
In terms of the music, the new Anthology Collection box sets have been remastered by Giles Martin. The original three double albums are unchanged (remastering apart), but are joined by Anthology 4, newly curated by Giles, including 13 previously unreleased demos and session recordings and other rare tracks. This extra volume also includes new mixes of the 1995 and 1996 singles ‘Free As A Bird’ and ‘Real Love’. They have been freshened up by original producer, Jeff Lynne, using de-mixed John Lennon vocals (the original ‘Free As A Bird’ music video has also been restored). ‘Now and Then’, the last Beatles song, is also on Anthology 4. There is no mention of Dolby Atmos Mixes of any of the 191 tracks that make up The Anthology Collection. That would be a massive undertaking, to be fair.

Both 8CD and 12LP box sets include the original sleeve notes for Anthology 1, 2 and 3; the new Anthology 4 includes track notes written by Kevin Howlett and an introduction compiled from 1996 interviews recorded with The Beatles’ close friend and adviser Derek Taylor. If you are wondering about the packaging, as far as I can tell, that rather dubious photo that has been chosen of The Beatles appears to be a ‘bellyband’ which is removable to reveal the classic Anthology artwork below. Phew!
Documentary coming to Disney+
The original eight episodes of The Beatles Anthology documentary series have been restored and remastered. These were originally screened on TV networks around the world (ITV in the UK) at the time and were released on VHS and Laserdisc in 1996 and then on DVD in 2003. They never made it to blu-ray and there is a question mark over whether that will now ever happen, since as with The Beatles Get Back and Let It Be, restored Beatles Anthology is coming exclusively to Disney+, beginning in late November.

The restoration has been overseen by Apple Corps’ production team, working with Peter Jackson’s Wingnut Films & Park Road Post teams along with Giles Martin, who has created new audio mixes for the majority of the featured music.
There is now a completely new Episode Nine, including unseen behind-the-scenes footage of Paul, George and Ringo coming together between 1994 and 1995 to work on “The Anthology” and reflecting on their shared life as The Beatles.
The book
The Beatles Anthology book took so long to come to market (five years after the first episode and the first album was released) it felt like something of an afterthought at the time. That’s not to say it’s not an impressive tome and the 368-page book remains the only official Beatles Autobiography. It’s back in print for what is its 25th anniversary, although it appears to be exactly the same content as before, and as such is the least exciting element of this reissue campaign.
The 8CD and 12LP vinyl Anthology Collection box sets are released on 21 November, The Beatles Anthology documentary will screen on Disney+ from 26 November and the book is available from 14 October 2025.
Update: Anthology 4 was announced as a standalone product a month after the Anthology Collection was originally announced.

Split Enz’ 1976 studio album, Second Thoughts, will be reissued as an SDE exclusive blu-ray in November and features a Dolby Atmos, a 5.1 Mix and more.
Formed in 1972 in Auckland, New Zealand, Split Enz, (initially known as ‘Split Ends’), were the first band from New Zealand to achieve major success beyond the Southern Hemisphere, blazing a trail with a sound and style entirely their own. They evolved from folk-inspired beginnings into a fusion of art-rock, new wave, and theatrical performance. Initially, the band members were Tim Finn, vocalist and guitarist Phil Judd, bassist Mike Chunn, violinist Miles Golding and flautist Mike Howard. But the line-up changed quite regularly and by the time of Second Thoughts, Eddie Rayner was playing keyboards, Robert Gillies took care of saxophone/trumpet, while Noel Crombie and Emlyn Crowther were on percussion and drums, respectively. Neil Finn joined in 1977.
Second Thoughts was produced by Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera and was the band’s first album release in Europe and North America but their second in Australia and New Zealand where Mental Notes was actually their debut. Second Thoughts features four tracks from Mental Notes along with a couple of tracks that were recorded during the sessions for Mental Notes (but not used) and then re-recorded for Second Thoughts. Additionally, the song ‘Matinee Idyll’ on Second Thoughts was a re-recorded and retitled version of an early B-side called ‘129’.

Speaking about the band now Phil Manzanera recalls “We (Roxy Music) arrived in Sydney after this horrendously long journey via Mumbai and all sorts of stopovers and I get into my hotel room, turn on the TV and there was Split Enz, playing live on GTK. I was absolutely blown away when I found out they were playing with us at the Hordern Pavilion there in Sydney. At the gig, I decided to watch from the side of the stage and was very impressed. My recollection is that when the band came off stage, I passed by their dressing room, put my head in and said, ‘Hey guys that was terrific. If there is anything I can do to help let me know.’ How it came about that they came to London, I don’t know, but I organised the recording of what became the album Second Thoughts at Basing Street Studios in Notting Hill Gate. During the recording I was amazed by how together and accomplished they all were with the song arrangements, but of course I didn’t really appreciate how long they had been gigging. It was a joy to work with them.”
I was absolutely enchanted and inspired by Mental Notes as a 17-year-old. It made me believe anything was possible. Fifty years later, it sounds as unique and timeless as it did then 2025

John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1972 album Some Time In New York City and their 1972 concerts at Madison Square Garden (less than three months after the album’s release) are the focus of a marathon 9CD + 3 x blu-ray box set, Power To The People, to be released in October, the day after what would have been Lennon’s 85th birthday.
Following last year’s similarly exhaustive Mind Games extravaganza (watch the SDEtv unboxing), 92 of the 123 songs across the 12 discs are previously unreleased. These include demos, outtakes, jams, home recordings and additional live performances. The box set has been compiled by Sean Ono Lennon, helped by mixing from Paul Hicks and audio restoration by Sam Gannon, with mixes mastered at Abbey Road by Alex Wharton.
Now retitled as simply New York City, the studio tracks from Some Time In New York City were co-produced by Lennon and Ono with Phil Spector. The new edition has omits the controversial ‘Woman Is The N****r Of The World’, which, don’t forget, was actually a single in some territories including North America (although not the UK) – the only one to be released from the album. The last official release of this song was 2010 when it was included in the Signature Box and on the reissued Some Time in New York City album. It wasn’t included on 2020’s Gimme Some Truth compilation and so it was always going to be an issue if John’s Estate wanted to reissue the 1972 album.
The new edition features extended versions of ‘John Sinclair’ and ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’. It has been remixed Ono Lennon and his team as The Ultimate Mixes, while a separate disc by Sam Gannon, The Evolution Documentary, is an audio montage detailing New York City’s tracks via demos, rehearsals, outtakes and studio conversations.
A disc of jams from the sessions includes many covers of the likes of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and The Coasters, plus “Elements Mixes” which isolates the orchestral parts of four songs.

A big part of this box set is material from the concerts recorded on 30 August 1972 at Madison Square Garden which featured a guest appearance by Stevie Wonder. The afternoon and evening gigs, dubbed The One To One Concert, were in aid of children with educational and developmental needs. They would be the only full-length shows Lennon played after The Beatles split. They were also his last public concerts with Ono. To be clear, none of this audio was on the Some Time in New York City album, but was first released after John’s death in 1986 as Live in New York City. The 11 tracks on this release were mostly made up from the afternoon show (generally regarded as the weaker of the two performances).
The first CD in the new box set is a ‘hybrid’ best of, combing the best of the afternoon and evening live shows, while CDs 2 and 3 offer each show, individually. ‘Sisters O Sisters’ was performed at both concerts but is excluded from both in this box set (although the studio version is included).
CDs 4, 5 & 6 cover New York City (the studio tracks from the ’72 album) as detailed above, and then the next two CDs offer ‘live jams’ from the 1969 Peace And Love For Christmas UNICEF Benefit at London Lyceum and the 1971 Fillmore East show in which Lennon and Ono jammed with Frank Zappa And The Mothers Of Invention. CD 7 is effectively the live tracks from the original album (newly mixed of course) while CD 8 is previously unreleased.
The final CD deviates from the theme somewhat and delivers 33 home demos (‘Home Jams’) from John’s private quarter-inch tape and cassette collections, recorded at the St. Regis Hotel in NYC and the Campus Inn in Ann Arbor, Michigan; the latter includes four tracks with protest singer Phil Ochs.
The three blu-rays effectively repeat all the content on the nine CDs with audio in hi-res stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos. It’s not clear whether everything is in Atmos and 5.1 but certainly all the concerts will be, as well the New York City content and the like. It’s hard to see how (or why) John’s acoustic demos would be mixed in Atmos or 5.1
This is lavishly presented, as you’d expect from the team that brought you that massive Mind Games box set. The box includes a 204-page book with an oral history of the album and concerts. It also adds a newsprint poster, sticker sheets, replica concert tickets, plus replica backstage and aftershow passes. The box set is packaged in a 10” slipcase with silver foil titling and a lenticular cover of Lennon and Ono’s faces.
2LP and single CD editions offer the 17-track ‘hybrid’ best of TheOne to One concerts and there’s also a 2CD edition (with lenticular sleeve) with the afternoon show on CD 1 and evening show on CD 2.
The One To One Concert will be available separately as 4LP vinyl and 2CD editions (these both might possibly be direct-to-consumer, since retail links are hard to come by), with a hybrid version of the two concerts also available separately as 2LP and 1CD. Vinyl versions feature an eight page 12” booklet, a newsprint poster and two postcards.

BMG will reissue Supergrass’ fifth studio album, Road to Rouen, in October.
Recorded in France (in Rouen, geddit?) the 2005 album saw the band in a reflective mood, with an introspective vibe and longer more orchestral compositions. It features the singles ‘Low C,’ ‘Fin’ and ‘St Petersburg’.

The album has been “fully remastered” is being reissued as a 2CD deluxe and on 2LP ‘Petrol and Forest Green’ vinyl. Content on both is similar but the CD set ultimately offers 17 bonus tracks compared to the vinyl’s eleven. The content includes ‘débranché’, or unplugged, versions of songs.
Road to Rouen will be issued on 3 October 2025, via BMG. The official shop has a 2CD+2LP vinyl bundle that come with a signed postcard.
Radiohead are to release a live album with tracks from their 2003 studio album Hail To The Thief.
Hail To The Thief Live Recordings 2003-2009 comprises live versions of 12 of the 14 songs from the original album. It replicates the original running order, though no live versions of ‘Backdrifts’ or ‘A Punch Up At A Wedding’ are included, despite both songs being performed regularly live on the accompanying album tour.
The album is compiled from four concerts, in London, Dublin, Buenos Aires and Amsterdam and was mixed by Ben Baptie and mastered by Matt Colton. It is released digitally today and will receive a vinyl-and CD physical release in October, with the press release stating the vinyl will be a one-off pressing. Vinyl formats include a opaque red vinyl edition from indie stores and cyan coloured vinyl edition from Radiohead’s website.
It’s only Radiohead’s second live album, following 2001’s I Might Be Wrong, and is the band’s first release since Kid A Mnesiain 2021 which offered previously unreleased material from the sessions for Kid A and Amnesia.
This live album of Hail To The Thief happened as a result of Thom Yorke helping to create the play Hamlet Hail To The Thief with the Royal Shakespeare Company. It opened at Manchester Aviva Studios in May, before running at Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in June.
Radiohead have long been critical of Hail To The Thief, which had been designed as a return to a more immediate way of working following the protracted sessions for Kid A and Amnesia. Yorke told Spin in 2006 that: “We wanted to do things quickly and I think the songs suffered,” while Ed O’Brien stated the album has too many songs. In 2008, Colin Greenwood described the album to Mojo as “a holding process” in between its predecessors and the following In Rainbows.

Thom Yorke
Yorke now says the old live recordings helped him to reassess Hail To The Thief while working on Hamlet Hail To The Thief. He said: “In the process of thinking of how to build arrangements for Hamlet Hail To The Thief, I asked to hear some archive live recordings of the songs.
“I was shocked by the kind of energy behind the way we played. I barely recognised us, and it helped me find a way forward. We decided to get these live recordings mixed and released. (It would have been insane to keep them for ourselves). It has all been a very cathartic process.”
Radiohead have worked on solo projects since 2016’s A Moon Shaped Pool, but it’s strongly rumoured that they will reunite for a tour next year.
Hail To The Thief – Live Recordings 2003-2009 will be released on 31 October 2025, via XL.
The ‘Shine EP’ and album Apple by Mother Love Bone, the short-lived Seattle band that helped to jump start the Grunge movement in the late ’80s, will be reissued on CD and vinyl in September.
Mother Love Bone was fronted by vocalist Andrew Wood, with the other members being Jeff Ament, Bruce Fairweather, Stone Gossard and Greg Gilmore. Wood died, of a heroin overdose, between the EP coming out in March 1989 and the scheduled release of the Apple album, a year later. The band ended and the albumwas eventually released a few months later, in July 1990.
Ament and Gossard would later form Pearl Jam with Mike McCready, all of whom had participated in the Temple of the Dog tribute project, from which emerged one eponymous album in early 1991.
Both the ‘Shine EP’ and Apple feature remastered audio and coloured vinyl editions (‘Hanbanero’ orange and ‘Opaque Sky’ blue) are available via indie retail.
Both titles are released on 26 September 2025 via UMR/Island.
