Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe issue their 13th studio album, SUPER. If feedback on SDE is anything to go by, the PSBs like Stuart Price’s production more than the average fan, but we’ll reserve judgement. No deluxe editions announced, although a vinyl factory version seems highly likely. 
Vinyl180 reissue the Thompson Twins 1983 breakthrough album for a second time in six months. This double LP ‘deluxe’ version is on black vinyl this time but features the once rare ‘cassette’ remixes on the second LP.

One of the big announcements of this past week, was the 50th anniversary reissue of The Beach Boys Pet Sounds. Or at least it should have been big, but from the comments and reaction here on SDE I got the distinct impression of Pet Sounds ennui. Just how many times can you reissue the same album? One SDE reader counted eight or nine issues of the 1966 long-player, over the decades, with a mono LP version of the album licensed out to Analog Productions only last year!

How Paul McCartney must have wished he hadn’t told Michael Jackson about the financial benefits of music publishing. Macca famously missed out on the opportunity to take ownership of the rights to most of the songs he wrote with John Lennon because he failed to come to an arrangement with Yoko Ono in the early 1980s. Without an agreement in place with John Lennon’s widow, Paul, as sensitive as ever to public perception, didn’t want to go ahead on his own for fear of appearing “grabby” and owning John Lennon’s portion of the songs. This was discussed in some detail in Musician magazine back in the early 1990s although there is actually no logic to this, because he could easily have purchased all rights and then sold 50% to Yoko afterwards if he wanted to be ‘fair’.
