Bryan Ferry announces new album, Loose Talk

Bryan Ferry is set to release a new studio album, Loose Talk, a collaboration with performance artist Amelia Barratt.

It will be Ferry’s 17th solo studio album, and the first since 2018’s Bitter-Sweet. Lead single, ‘Orchestra’, is released today and features a new video shot and directed by Ferry himself. You can preview this below.

Loose Talk features new music from Ferry, but for the first time in his career an album’s worth of music is set to another writer’s words, with all 11 tracks co-written with Barratt.

Bryan Ferry and Amelia Barratt first met by chance at an exhibition opening, but both share an art school background – Ferry having studied painting at Newcastle University in the 1960’s; Barratt at both The Glasgow School of Art and The Slade School of Art. It was Barratt’s combination of writing and performing, alongside her painting, which initially intrigued Ferry and started their partnership.

This collaboration had previously been teased with the song ‘Star’, a new song featured on the rarities disc of the deluxe version of the Retrospective compilation, but this new album takes a slightly different approach. As Ferry explains: “the whole experience of making Loose Talk has had an interesting newness about it. It seems to have opened a whole new chapter in my work. There’s a really strong mood to the work that Amelia does and I was very conscious of not getting in the way of her words. Hopefully, together, we’ve created something neither could do on our own.”

The album will be available on both CD and vinyl formats, with the latter offered in black, clear and green coloured variations. The CD is nicely packaged in hardcover book style. Bob Clearmountain has also created an Atmos mix which, presumably, will be available on streaming once the album is released.

Loose Talk will be released on 28 March 2025 via Ferry’s own label, Dene Jesmond Records.
