Rhino’s latest releases to feature archival quadrophonic mixes are now available on Amazon in the USA having previously been D2C (direct-to-consumer) only.
These new ‘Quadio’ titles are a quartet of albums originally released within a year of each other. They are America’s George Martin-produced Holiday (1974), Gordon Lightfoot’sSundown (1974), Charlie Mingus’Mingus Moves (1973) and The Spinners’ fourth album Spinners (1973).
All four of the albums are pressed on blu-ray audio and feature 24/194 four channel (4.0) audio as well as 24/192 stereo. They come in those ‘super’ jewel cases that SACDs used to be presented in.
The ‘Quadio’ initiative started back in 2016 with a Chicago box set, which was later followed by a Doobie Brothers box is 2020. Rhino have recently rebooted it for some individual releases, which is most welcome. Four other titles were issued earlier this year including Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper.
The four titles listed above are released on 8 December 2024. There doesn’t appear to be any UK availability at this point.
