Duran Duran ‘drop’ title track of new album

If you were underwhelmed by Pressure Off, the first song Duran Duran put out from their forthcoming Paper Gods album, perhaps you’ll enjoy the title track which perhaps isn’t quite as eager to please. This is DD firmly in ‘album track’ territory, as the song – which features “Mr Hudson” (who?) –  goes on for seven minutes and is apparently structurally ‘free’ to do what it wants.

Deal alert / Paul McCartney: Tug of War / limited super deluxe edition

This isn’t so much a ‘deal alert’ as an availability alert, since Paul McCartney‘s top-of-range SUPER deluxe edition of Tug of War (released in Oct) is limited to just 1000 units and is already unavailable from many stockists including McCartney’s own website. However, this is available on Amazon Italy at the time of writing.

Ripe for reissue: XTC / Oranges and Lemons on CD+blu-ray with 5.1

Alison Moyet and the politics around the deluxe reissue

Alison Moyet this week announced some deluxe reissues. I was going to be cheeky and title the post “Alison Moyet reissues – just not the ones you want” but I thought that was a little bit harsh on Cooking Vinyl who have put the work into the new two-CD sets of  Hometime, The Voice and Turn. I’ll admit to having lost interest in Moyet’s work at this point in time (meaning the noughties), but maybe I need to revisit because there seems to be a fair amount of love for Hometime with a few of you declaring it to be ‘a masterpiece’.

Public Enemy / Live from Metropolis Studios / super deluxe

Last August hip-hop legends Public Enemy performed an intimate show at London’s Metropolis Studios, giving 125 lucky fans a chance to see them up close and personal. Inevitably, this was filmed and recorded and this September will be released across five different formats including a super deluxe edition box set.
