As Heaven 17‘s Martyn Ware, who co-produced two tracks, correctly pointed out when he talked to SDE about the album last year “at that point in recording history there were three or four albums that everybody had – I call them coffee table albums. And that was one of those.”

I love All She Wants Is. The second single from 1988’s excellent Big Thing outperformed the more commercial sounding lead 45 I Don’t Want Your Love, and by peaking at number 9 in the UK, kept up Duran Duran’s record of having a top ten single from each studio album (Liberty would soon ruin that).

Bruce Springsteen releases Tunnel of Love era live show
Bruce Springsteen yesterday released a 1988 live show via his Live Bruce Springsteen website which he launched late last year.
This concert performance is from the 28 April 1988 and was the 28th show on the Tunnel of Love Express tour where the band were augmented by ‘The Horns of Love’. It was the second night of a five night stand at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles.

Listen to a-ha’s Under The Makeup
Those Norwegian purveyors of melancholy we like to call a-ha, have this week made available a song from their forthcoming album Cast In Steel. Under The Makeup is a windswept and rather beautiful string-laden track that really delivers, with a typically pointed lyric of regret and miscommunication. The opening lines are classic Paul Waaktaar-Savoy: “This is how it ends, each on our own / unless we pretend, meanwhile our hearts turn to / stone shaped by wind, boulders slowly moulded over time, here within”.
