Arcade Fire will release Reflektor on 28 October 2013, their first studio album since 2010’s The Suburbs.
Reflektor is a double album and is being issued physically as a two-CD package and a double gatefold vinyl LP. The Anton Corbijn directed video for the song Reflektor can be viewed below.
The Rolling Stones are to release Sweet Summer Sun: Hyde Park Live on 11 November 2013, an audio-video celebration of their two gigs in the London park this summer.
The Pet Shop Boys release a second single from their well-received album Electric on 30 September 2013.
Love Is A Bourgeois Construct is being issued as a limited edition 9-track CD single, as Vocal was back in July. That CD is already hard to get hold, so these do seem to be genuinely limited.
Unlike Vocal, the Love Is A Bourgeois Construct CD single has a couple of new tracks – namely Entschuldigung! and Get It Online – to go with all the remixes. This comes in a gatefold CD wallet, and is likely to be consistent with Vocal and have an inner wallet too. The packaging is relatively lavish compared to the recent EMI releases.
The B-sides and remixes CD contains both 7″ and 12″ versions of “Pale Shelter (You Don’t Give Me Love)”
In anticipation ofthe forthcoming Hurtingbox set, Tears For Fears have released a stream via SoundCloud of the very original 12-inch version of their 1982 single Pale Shelter.
Actually titled Pale Shelter (You Don’t Give Me Love), this was the band’s second single after debut Suffer The Children was issued in November 1981. Neither 45 charted, and Roland Orzabal revealed his feelings about these early disappointments to SuperDeluxeEdition editor Paul Sinclair, when interviewed for the sleeve notes of the forthcoming reissue: Continue reading “Tears For Fears / Listen to Pale Shelter remix from The Hurting box”
ZTT records will release a new compilation The Organization of Pop: Music From The First Thirty Years of ZTT Records in the US on 15 October 2013, via Stateside partners Razor & Tie.

A 12-disc box set, a two-disc hits collection (on vinyl and CD) and a Studio Albums box set (also on vinyl and CD) mean that this is an expensive day for the ‘must have everything’ Clash fan.

Sheryl Crow / Feels Like Home
Sheryl Crow follows up her 2010 covers album 100 Miles From Memphis, with this new country offering (recorded in Memphis) featuring songwriting collaborations across all 12 tracks on the record.
Nick Drake‘s 1968 debut gets the vinyl box set treatment and is finally out today after the proposed summer release date came and went.
Mott The Hoople / All The Young Dudes
Mott The Hoople‘s 1972 album was their fifth. Luckily for them, David Bowie gifted them the well-known title track, and stepped in to produce the record too. This is a heavyweight, Music On Vinyl reissue.
Mick Jones has told Rolling Stone that there will be no more archival Clash reissues after the Sound System box set.
When asked about specifically about the lack of live recordings on the new box he responds by saying they’re “already out there” (i.e. bootlegs) and then goes on to say “I’m not even thinking about any more Clash releases. This is it for me, and I say that with an exclamation mark.”
In a fascinating interview he says there are “not really” any outtakes left in the vault and acknowledges that the band should have probably taken a break, rather then splitting up.
The Atomhenge / Cherry Red Super Deluxe Edition box set of Hawkwind‘s Warrior On The Edge Of Time, was recently nominated for a Progressive Music Storm Thorgerson Grand Design award.
This 2CD+DVD+LP box set, which was released back in May, features original stereo mixes, new Steven Wilson stereo mixes and new surround sound mixes of the 1975 album, as well as plenty of bonus tracks.
Although it didn’t win the award, this seemed like a good time to show you exactly what the set looks like. Enjoy the photo gallery below!
Eric Clapton’s massively successful Unplugged album from 1992, is to be reissued next month as a 2CD+DVD expanded and remastered edition.
In addition to the original 14-track album (remastered), this new set will include a bonus CD featuring six outtakes and alternate versions, and a DVD that features a newly restored version of the original broadcast as well as more than an hour of previously unseen pre-show rehearsal.
Unplugged Expanded and Remastered is released on 14 October 2013.
Cherry Pop will reissue eighties boy band Bros‘ debut album Push as a three-CD 25th anniversary deluxe edition on 28 October 2013.
The 1988 album, which sold 1.2 million copies in the first year of release in Britain alone, contains five top 5 UK singles, including the number one I Owe You Nothing. It would be the band’s only album as a trio, before the acrimonious departure of bassist Craig Logan.
This three CD set contains a wealth of remixes that kept Shep Pettibone (and other remixers) very busy at the time, including the 18-minute “Over 18 Mix” of I Owe You Nothing, six versions of When Will I Be Famous? including the sample heavy “Contender Dub Mix” and the various B-side tracks, such as The Boy Is Dropped, Silent Night (technically an ‘A’ side), and The Big Push Overture.
In total, 21 bonus tracks in this remastered Bros-fest.
The Waterboys‘ are marking the 25th Anniversary of their Fisherman’s Blues album, with the forthcoming Fisherman’s Box. This epic box set will be available as a compact six-CD clamshell package, and a deluxe 7CD set with a vinyl LP.
Both sets comprise the complete Fisherman’s Blues sessions 23rd January 1986 to 2nd June 1988 (121 tracks in total) with the latter adding a bonus 17-track CD from artists that influenced the making of the record. The deluxe 12″ x 12″ box also features three exclusive art prints, large 32-page booklet featuring many previously unseen photos, as well as the original album remastered and pressed on 180gm heavyweight vinyl.
Fisherman’s Box is released on 14 October 2013 on Parlophone.
While we wait patiently for The Hurting deluxe box set, for our rather irregular ‘Japanese CD of the Day’ feature we thought we’d look at the 2010 Japanese Paper Sleeve (mini-LP CD) reissue of Tears For Fears 1985 album Songs From The Big Chair.
This replicated the audio from the 2005 two-disc deluxe edition, but presented it with the usual Japanese panache. Each disc in this set was housed in its own wallet, with the sleeve for disc one replicating the original UK vinyl and the second disc in a wallet that used photographs from the era. The inner sleeve design was recreated and shrunk down to CD size, while this set even came with a two-sided, numbered card which reprinted the original vinyl label designs.
A larger-than-normal booklet contained Paul Lester’s essay about the album, and although largely in Japanese, the folded paper poster contained lyrics in English (even for the bonus tracks).
Catalogue number for this release was UICY-94430 and as stated on the OBI strip this was part of a “Golden ’80s Paper Sleeve Collection” (The Seeds Of Love was also issued at the same time). This is an “SHM-CD”. The SHM stands for Super High Material and it is suppposed to provide “enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic”. Although playable on all CD players, many remain unconvinced by the merits of SHM-CDs.

Nirvana‘s Nevermind and In Utero are two of the titles being reissued this month on the Universal’s ‘High Fidelity – Pure Audio’ branded blu-ray audio discs.
Other albums issued include The Rolling Stones‘ classic Exile On Main Street, Queen‘s A Night At The Opera, Crime Of The Century by Supertramp and Beck’s Sea Change.
Like the first batch – that have had a rather staggered release around Europe these past few months – these forthcoming blu-ray audio reissues will offer no video content, just three hi-res stereo audio options: Full DTS Master Audio, PCM (Pulse Control Modulation uncompressed Sound) or Dolby True HD.
A big discussion point will be whether we get offered a 5.1 surround sound option to sit alongside the stereo audio, on any of these titles. In the booklets supplied with the first releases Universal state: “Where possible tracks will be available in 5.1 surround, but in order to pay respect to the original material this is not possible for every release”. Certainly the Queen title has been available in 5.1 on various other formats, so one would expect to see them include that.
Presumably, In Utero will be the new Steve Albini remaster, but it is curious that this blu-ray audio wasn’t mentioned in the press release for that reissue, and will it come with the 32 bonus tracks you get on the similarly priced 2CD deluxe edition?
At the moment these are only available from Amazon Germany, with a release date of 20 September. We will update this page if and when other territories get these releases!
Viva! Hysteria is a 2CD+DVD deluxe live set from Def Leppard recorded earlier this year as part of the rock band’s Las Vegas residency.
The calling card for this performance was the fact that they played their mega-selling 1987 album Hysteria in full, as well as other highlights from their career.
As well as the deluxe 2CD+DVD, Viva! Hysteria is available on Blu-ray and DVD, and is released on 21 October 2013.
Eagle Rock will release Perfect Strangers Live next month,a DVD of Deep Purple‘s 1984 concert in Melbourne, Australia, which featured the classic ‘mark II’ reunion line-up of Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice.
This is said to be the only full-length recording of the band from that time, and as well as a single DVD, it is being made available as a DVD+2CD set, or for vinyl fans, you can buy a mega 2LP+2CD+DVD package, with the 15 live tracks repeated across three different formats.
Perfect Strangers Live is released on 14 October 2013.
Here is a look at the bonus disc that is supplied with copies of the new Sly & the Family StoneHigher! box set, ONLY when bought from Amazon.com. Five of the six tracks are previously unissued and these are mixed by Vic Anesini.
Tracks included are

TV Medley: Sing A Simple Song/Hot Fun In The Summertime/I Want To Take You Higher
Mike Oldfield‘s Crises reissue is out this week. A review of the music will come later, but for your pleasure, we present this photo gallery of the five-disc box and the two-CD deluxe edition.
The box measures around 20cm x 15.5cm and is similar to other Universal sets including the T.Rex Electric Warrior super deluxe edition. While the two-disc deluxe has a glossy finish, the box opts for a matt laminated coating and Terry llot’s cover painting survives the transition from square to rectangle rather well.
The 38 page hardcover book tells the story of the album effectively, with lots of photos of memorabilia, including concert tickets, picture discs and record sleeves. Apart from the book there are no ‘extras’ in the box like the art cards and poster included with Electric Warrior, and unlike that set – and the forthcoming Tears For Fears / The Hurting box – the discs are not in gatefold wallets, rather simple, single sleeves.
The design doesn’t vary for the cover of each disc sleeve (3CDs and 2DVDs) so they are numbered top right, for easy reference. The box comes with one of those ribbons, to help to get the contents easily from the box.
The deluxe set is an eight-panel gatefold digipack and the 16-page booklet contains the same essay as the book, along with a selection of photos.
The box set has actually sold out, but Universal are pressing some more, so availability should not be an issue. Full track listing and more details here.
