Pink Floyd / The Endless River deluxe box sets and gatefold vinyl

endless_river

The Endless River is a new Pink Floyd album created from music recorded in 1993 during The Division Bell sessions.

At the time, David Gilmour, Rick Wright and Nick Mason had played freely together (at Britannia Row and Astoria studios) for the first time in over 20 years and the unreleased sessions from that time have been revisited, with the band spending the last year recording and upgrading the music to create The Endless River.

Jimi Hendrix / The Cry of Love and Rainbow Bridge soundtrack

Terry Ott examines two recent Hendrix reissues.

GOT MORE ICONIC IMMORTAL HENDRIX, IF YOU WANT IT.

“And if I don’t see you no more more in this world, I’ll meet you on the next one – but don’t be late. Don’t be late.”  Voodoo Child by Jimi Hendrix

Did Johnny Allen Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix have a premonition when he wrote the above lyric? We’ll never know.

But what we do know is that we can ‘see’ or rather hear Jimi again in this world from around the productive period when he made his other-worldly remarks, even one of these two early posthumous Hendrix albums did take 43 years to make it to officially on to CD (Rainbow Bridge) with the other (The Cry Of Love) being long unavailable. It may even be worth the wait, sound wise, seeing as they are newly remastered from the original two track basic stereo master tapes from Electric Ladyland Studios – but more on that later.

David Bowie / Sound + Vision 4CD box

The 2003 ‘reboot’ of David Bowie‘s original 1989 Sound + Vision box added an extra disc to take fans through the ’80s and into the early nineties, and unlike the forthcoming Nothing Has Changed it features a few well chosen Tin Machine tracks (a good thing – really). Eleven years ago the high cost meant upgrading wasn’t a priority, but this new repackage at a crazily cheap price means this is now highly recommended. Read more

Review: Bon Jovi / New Jersey SDE

bon_front

Graeme Piper reviews the Bon Jovi’s New Jersey reissue.

NO ROCK FAN OF A CERTAIN AGE can have failed to notice the steel horse Bon Jovi rode in on back in 1986 and the über-success of their slick and glossy third album, Slippery When Wet. Giving them the commercial success they craved, they rode high on the crest of the ‘don’t bore us, get to the chorus’ wave, setting the bar exceptionally high for other bands to follow.

Beatles remastering team answer your vinyl mono box questions

beatles_m

The Beatles in Mono vinyl box set is finally out and has been getting stunning reviews across the music press.

Abbey Road’s Sean Magee – now a veteran when it comes to Beatles projects – was the mastering engineer for this enterprise and he was joined by industry legend Steve Berkowitz, a man who appears to have done *everything* in the music business – a veritable master-of-all-trades with a lifetime of experience in roles such as producer, music marketeer and A&R man, studio owner and artist manager. Steve worked alongside Sean as mastering supervisor for The Beatles In Mono box set.

A few weeks back SuperDeluxeEdition readers submitted their Mono Box questions in the hope that either Sean and/or Steve would provide an answer. We removed duplicates and collated the best questions and we are delighted to bring you all the answers direct from the remastering team.
