Second Hand News / August 2015

It’s that time of the month! SDE has been shopping for used records, largely in charity or thrift stores. Here’s what we’ve found…

Tina Turner / Tina Live (CD) – £2.49

This was a timely find, given the recent reissue of Tina Turner‘s Private Dancer. This was one of a series of EMI ‘Sound&Vision’ double-packs which gave you the concert on VHS and the ‘soundtrack’ to the concert on CD. The CD was exclusive, that was the real draw. Kate Bush’s Live at Hammersmith Odeon got a similar release. Anyway, the VHS for this had gone AWOL (not exactly a disaster) and as can be seen from the photos the CD itself has seen better days. Nevertheless this plays fine and most of the content isn’t on the new reissue!

Spot the Difference: Roger Waters Amused to Death / 2LP reissue

As explained back in June, the recent Roger Waters Amused to Death reissue actually comes in two very similar vinyl pressings; one issued by Sony and the other by the US audiophile label Analogue Productions. But how can you tell the difference and which one have you got?

GTR / 2CD Deluxe Edition

GTR

Steve Howe formed short-lived rock band GTR with guitarist Steve Hackett in 1985, after his departure from ASIA.

With vocalist Max Bacon, bassist Phil Spalding and drummer Jonathan Mover they recorded the self-titled, Geoff Downes produced album, which was issued in 1986. There was never a follow-up, but the band did tour and this newly remastered double-disc deluxe edition from Esoteric Recordings features 14 tracks performed live in Los Angeles in 1986 on the second CD.
