The Blow Monkeys / Animal Magic 1986 CD

An original RCA pressing of The Blow Monkeys‘ second album Animal Magic. PD 70910 was made in Germany and RCA did what they always did which is ruin the front cover artwork by insisting their logo go on the front. No one escaped this including David Bowie and the Eurythmics. PRICE PAID: £2.49

David Bowie / Never Let Me Down 1987 CD

Talking of Bowie, here’s the original CD version of 1987’s Never Let Me Down. Not much to see here you may think, but a close look at the back reveals Too Dizzy as track 10. Bowie convinced EMI America to remove this from future pressings as he’d apparently decided he didn’t like it, so this is the only place you can find the song. Bad news for co-writer Erdal Kizilcay who regularly incorporates the song into his concerts. In fact another Kizilcay co-write also missed out on album inclusion; Girls (previously recorded by Tina Turner) ended up as the B-side to the second single Time Will Crawl. PRICE PAID: £2.49

Martyn Ware on Tina Turner’s Private Dancer

Private Dancer at 30, featuring exclusive Martyn Ware interview on working with Tina Turner

Tina Turner‘s Private Dancer was released on this day 30 years ago.

The record became an enormous success for the singer (then in her mid-forties) thanks in part to an 18-month single release schedule that saw no fewer than seven songs from the ten-track album issued as 45s, in various territories.

The first of those singles was a cover of the Al Green classic Let’s Stay Together which, when issued in November 1983, penetrated the UK top ten and became her first top 30 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 since the iconic Nutbush City Limits performed with ex-husband Ike ten years earlier.

That single was produced by Martyn Ware (with Greg Walsh), from Heaven 17 and he spoke to SuperDeluxeEdition recently to share his memories of working with Tina. You can read that interview in full below.

TRANSLATED! The SDE guide to reissue and music box set PR

translated

With that in mind, here’s a lighthearted look at reissue and music box set PR….

“Career spanning” >  The bits of the artist’s career the label have the rights to.

“Host of unreleased recordings” > Music rejected the first time around for being sub-standard. Continue reading “TRANSLATED! The SDE guide to reissue and music box set PR”

Deal Alert / Oasis box set

oasis_dealbuy5

We’re not changing our now semi-infamous ‘bag of shite‘ stance when it comes to this Oasis box, and so it still doesn’t come recommended by SDE, however a £31 price drop is pretty significant, so for those who feel that this needs to be on their shelf, and haven’t yet taken the plunge, we’d like to at least highlight an opportunity to save some cash. But just remember you’ll save even more by not buying it :) At the time of writing it’s £79 on Amazon UK which we’re confident is the cheapest price anywhere in the world (correct us if we’re wrong!).
