Roger Waters / “Amused to Death” confirmed as a 5.1 surround SACD

It has been confirmed today that Roger Waters‘ 1992 solo album Amused To Death – their much-delayed LP and SACD reissue project – will now be released as a multi-channel surround sound SACD rather than ‘just’ stereo as originally proposed.

Audiophile specialists Acoustic Sounds say they took the many requests for 5.1 from fans ‘very seriously’ and put the suggestion to Pink Floyd producer/engineer James Guthrie, who then sold Roger Waters himself on the idea!

Duran Duran to release “A Diamond In The Mind” on deluxe vinyl

Duran Duran are set to release a limited edition vinyl version of their 2012 live album A Diamond In The Mind.

The live album (and companion DVD and Blu-ray concert film) was a celebration of their 2011 world tour which saw Duran Duran perform many tracks from their celebrated Mark Ronson-produced album All You Need Is Now (released digitally at the end of 2010 and physically in 2011).

Peter Gabriel / Back to Front: Live in London deluxe sets

Peter Gabriel‘s S0-celebrating Back to Front tour was filmed at London’s O2 in October 2013 using the latest ultra high definition 4K technology.

This concert film of this show is released on DVD and blu-ray in June 2014 with both formats available in standard and deluxe configurations. The normal editions are standard one-disc affairs, but it gets more interesting with the deluxe editions which come packaged as 60-page photo-books and are four-discs sets.

Behind-the-Scenes: Blank & Jones reconstructing “The Power of Love”

Another fascinating video update from Blank & Jones as they work on their forthcoming so80s presents ZTT remix project. In this video you will see how the duo discovered that Frankie Goes To Hollywood‘s The Power Of Love was originally recorded seven beats-per-minutes (BPM) slower than the released version and you can take a listen to how the 12-minute ‘Blank & Jones so8os Reconstruction’ version of the track (created using only original multi-track parts) is shaping up.

David Gray will release a new album, Mutineers, in June which will be available as a deluxe three-CD set.

This special edition will come with two extra discs of classic live recordings including renditions of hit singles Babylon and Sail Away. A two-LP heavyweight gatefold vinyl version will also be available which includes the bonus track Nearly Midnight and will come with an digital download.

Universal Music Japan are celebrating ABBA‘s 40th Anniversary in their own way with the release of a unique compilation 40/40 The Best Selection.

As previously announced in Europe we are getting a new three-CD version of ABBA Gold which adds More ABBA Gold and a disc of B-sides to the classic 19-track compilation. Japan are arguably doing something more interesting since 40/40 The Best Selection has a track listing that was based on votes from over 9,000 Japanese fans.

Hue and Cry / Remote: Major to Minor / four-disc deluxe set

Although Scottish duo Hue and Cry‘s biggest hit single was Labour of Love from their 1987 debut Seduced and Abandoned (the song reach number six on the UK charts), their second album Remote that was the bigger selling long-player.

Released at the end of 1988, it was recorded in Sigma Sound studios in Manhattan, New York and features the fondly remembered UK top 30 hits Looking For Linda and Violently (Your Words Hit Me). It’s clear from the introduction to this new deluxe book set (dubbed Remote: Major to Minor) that songwriting brothers Pat and Greg Kane also view the record as something approaching their best work “we are as proud of the songs on this record as we ever were.”

“so80s presents ZTT”: Full track listing and running times revealed.

DJs Blank & Jones have finished mixing the audio for their so80s presents ZTT two-CD release. This project involved going back to original Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Art of Noise, and Propaganda multi-track master tapes and creating brand new mixes ONLY from the existing archive audio.

We revealed the track listing to readers of the SDE weekly newsletter on Sunday, but wanted to bring everyone here up to speed, with the added bonus of having the full running times for all tracks for the first time (see below for details). If you’d like to know more about the track selection for this release, Piet Blank offers some insight in amongst the comments here.

With all the attention largely focussed on the love-it-or-hate-it Cyndi Lauper She’s So Unusual deluxe edition, it has perhaps gone unnoticed that Sony have created a stunning limited edition coloured vinyl version. The heavyweight record is pressed on clear vinyl with colourful paint streaks running from the centre to the outside edge.

The much discussed reissue of Cyndi Lauper‘s 1983 album is released today. The two-CD version comes with elaborate packaging and if you opt for the vinyl you do get downloads of all the tracks on the bonus CD.

Therapy? / Troublegum and Infernal Love deluxe editions

The band from Northern Ireland see their mid-nineties commercial peak reissued with Infernal Love offered as a two-CD set and Troublegum boasting three discs.

The deluxe edition comes packaged as a casebound 40-page book with gold foiling and gold slipcase and the bonus disc is Live In The USA 2014, a 13-track live album. At the time of writing this set is available in European Amazon stores, but not the US site.

Universal’s recent 40th Anniversary super deluxe edition box set of Elton John‘s 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is something of a mixed bag.

Considering this album is Elton’s Band on the Run, his Dark Side Of The Moon, the packaging is a little disappointing. Universal have got us used to relatively lavish sets involving large books, memorabilia and the like. As we announced back in November Sony will be reissuing Emerson Lake And Palmer‘s 1973 album Brain Salad Surgery as a Super Deluxe Edition box set this spring.

It’s now available for pre-order and there are in fact two sets listed on Amazon: the top-of-the-range six-disc box (a reasonable £50 at the time of writing) and a cut-down three disc version.
