The Producers were a collective of Trevor Horn friends and associates that formed in 2006, played some intimate live venues and then eventually recorded an excellent album called Made in Basing Street that was released in 2012. That album will be issued on an SDE exclusive blu-ray featuring Atmos, 5.1 and other mixes, in September.

The band were record producers Trevor Horn (bass and vocals), Steve Lipson (guitar and programming), songwriter/producer Chris Braide (keyboards, guitar and vocals) and musicians Lol Creme (guitar and vocals) and Ash Soan (drums). For the album, other contributors included legendary keyboard player Geoff Downes (from the Buggles, Yes and Asia) and Horn’s ‘go to’ percussionist, the late Luís Jardim.

The 2023 mix of the album, which first appeared on the 2024 box set, has been given an immersive Dolby Atmos Mix by Richard Whittaker (who earlier this year tackled The Who’s Quadrophenia) from the multi-track tapes (sadly no multis for ‘Every Single Night in Jamaica’ could be found, so that’s an up mix). Additionally, the blu-ray contains 5.1 mixes, the Andy Pearce remastered stereo mix, instrumental (in Atmos, 5.1 and stereo) and two sets of binaural versions. Phew!

The Producers eventually morphed into ‘The Trevor Horn Band’ and contain to tour to this day with gigs lined up for August and the latter part this year.

Shakespears Sister / Stay coloured vinyl 12-inch

Shakespears Sister‘s UK number one ‘Stay’ will be reissued as a coloured vinyl 12-inch single next month.

The second single from Hormonally Yours, ‘Stay’ was released as a single in January 1992 and eventually topped the UK charts for eight consecutive weeks.

This reissue features 3 versions of ‘Stay’ and three mixes of its B-side ‘The Trouble With Andre’. Four of these versions are apparently previously unreleased on vinyl and the Andre Betts 12” Remix of ‘Stay’ that has never been commercially available at all.

Stay will be released on 26 June 2026 via London Records. The official store is offering a free poster with each purchase.

Howard Jones / Original Studio Albums 1984-1992

Cherry Red will release Original Studio Albums 1984-1992, a forthcoming Howard Jones 5CD box set featuring all of his studio album issued on WEA Records during this period.

Specifically, this includes the following records:

  • Human’s Lib (1984)
  • Dream into Action (1985)
  • One to One (1986)
  • Cross That Line (1989)
  • In the Running (1992)

These feature the same tracklistings as the original UK CDs, so for example, Dream into Action includes the bonus tracks ‘Bounce Right Back’ and ‘Like to Get to Know You Well’.

The CDs are packaged in card sleeves which reside in a clamshell box. The set comes with a 48-page booklet with notes by Anil Prasad.

Original Studio Albums 1984-1992 will be released on 10 July, via Cherry Red.

Chris Cornell / Carry On reissue

Carry On, Chris Cornell’s second solo studio album will be reissued on vinyl for the first time, in June.

The 2007 album features the Casino Royale Bond theme ‘You Know My Name’ and has been remastered by Levi Seitz. It includes two bonus tracks: ‘Today’ and ‘Roads We Choose’, both of which were widely available on the UK and Japanese CD version of the album.

Carry On is released on vinyl for the first time

Pressed on 2 x 180g black vinyl, the reissue also offers an unreleased extended intro for Cornell’s cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’. A 2LP picture disc version is available via some D2C (direct-to-consumer) channels.

Carry On will be released on vinyl on 26 June 2026, via UMR.

Black Box Recorder / England Made Me (2026 reissue)

Black Box Recorder’s 1998 debut stands alongside The Auteurs‘ New Wave and the Baader Meinhof album, as one of the best records Luke Haines has been involved in. Sarah Nixey sings (read the SDE interview with her) and Haines co-wrote the songs with John Moore. Once a semi-lost classic, this record has actually been reissued a few times now. This latest iteration for 2026 (on CD with 6 bonus tracks and album-only on clear vinyl) coincides with the London Palladium concert on Friday (and Leeds warm-up show tomorrow). Highly recommended.

Scritti Politti’s Cupid & Psyche 85 has been remastered and expanded for reissue in July.

The nine-track album features the hits ‘Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)’, ‘Absolute’ and ‘The Word Girl’. Original cassette and CD editions added four remixes (‘Versions’) taking the track count to 13.

For the new 2026 edition – overseen by Green Gartside – a 2LP vinyl features those original 13 tracks plus three additional numbers:

  • Perfect Way (Perfect Way Mix)

The same 16 tracks are available on CD and audio for both editions has been remastered by Chris Athens.

The Anchoress / As We Once Were

The Anchoress, aka Catherine Anne Davies, will release her third studio album, As We Once Were, in August. This is the follow-up to the brilliant The Art of Losing, one of SDE’s favourite albums of 2021. 

Talking about the new album, Davies told the NME that “So much of this record was born out of the early years of my daughter’s life, and I really wanted to collect together and call out all of the clichés, stereotypes and dumb shit that people say to women who’ve had babies that I had encountered myself”.

That explains the title of the first single, ‘I Had a Baby Not a Labotomy’, which features Gwenno (you can preview below).

Promisingly, Davies also said that “Having access to Townshend Studios and Pete’s collection of vintage analogue synthesisers was a huge part of shaping that sound”. 

The album is available on CD and 2LP vinyl (side 4 is etched). There are also special editions available via The Anchoress’ Bandcamp page.

As We Once Were is released on 7 August 2026 via Last Night in Glasgow (the tracklisting is not available at the time of writing)

Thin Lizzy debut album reissue

Thin Lizzy’s eponymous debut album will be reissued in July across a number of formats, including a 3CD+blu-ray box set, 4LP vinyl box, 2LP variants and as a limited edition SDE exclusive blu-ray.

Originally released on 30 April 1971 Thin Lizzy’s debut featured the original line up of Philip Lynott (Bass and Vocals) Eric Bell (Guitar) and Brian Downey (Drums). 

The album was followed by the New Day EP in August 71 both of which feature on the new box set alongside non-album tracks, outtakes, BBC sessions and brand-new mixes. This includes a new Richard Whittaker stereo mix of both album and EP, Sounds of the Seventies and John Peel Sessions and (on CD3) outtakes and alternates.

Like previous Lizzy box sets, this is presented as in 10-inch package with a 40-page booklet with extensive liner notes by Mojo’s Mark Blake. 

Blu-ray available as a standalone product exclusively via SDE

The 4LP set also offers a selection of new mixes, BBC Sessions and outtakes, while both with exclusive artwork and two double LP coloured vinyl sets offer the original mix on LP 1 and the new Richard Whittaker Stereo Mix on LP 2.

The SDE exclusive blu-ray is No 65 in the SDE Surround Series. It offers 2026 mixes of the album and New Day  EP (+ ‘Beggar’s Song’) in Dolby Atmos, 5.1, Stereo and Binaural – in both vocal and instrumental versions. There is no pre-order window for this SDE blu-ray release – it’s limited to 1,000 units. It comes in clear amaray blu-ray case and ships with a collectible SDE Surround Series slipcase.

The Beatles at 3 Savile Row

The Beatles have announced an “official destination for Beatles fans” in central London, with plans to convert their former HQ – 3 Savile Row, where they finished recording Let It Be and famously gave their final public (ish) performance, on the rooftop – into a ticketed experience.

The Beatles at 3 Savile Row will open the building and offer “seven floors of never-seen-before material from Apple Corps’ extensive archives”, rotating exhibitions, a fan shop (naturally), and the recreation of the original studio where Let it Be was recorded. Most excitingly, the press release suggests that, yes, fans will be able to get up onto the roof to “tread in the bands footsteps as they relive the iconic rooftop concert” (cue health and safety officers rubbing their hands together).

All this is the brainchild of new Apple CEO Tom Greene who says “Every single day, fans are taking pictures of the outside of 3 Savile Row – but next year they can go in and explore all seven floors of the iconic building, including the rooftop where even the railings remain the same from that famous day in 1969”.

It’s a great idea, and what Greene says is true. I used to work around the corner from Savile Row in the mid-90s (in Sackville Street) and remember clearly the various Beatles walking tours that used to come past our door having just visited 3 Savile Row (I’d hear them, because the tour guide would have a radio playing Beatles hits).

The Fab Four acquired what was a Georgian Townhouse in Savile Row (a street in West London most famous for its bespoke tailoring establishments) in the summer of 1968. In it, each of them had their own office and of course there was the basement studio where Let It Be was completed. This was put together somewhat on-the-fly and a new one was constructed in 1971 which was subsequently used by various artists, including Marc Bolan, until it closed in 1975. The Beatles sold the building in October 1976. American fashion retailer Abercrombie and Fitch bought it although whether Apple have now re-acquired the premises 50 years after selling it, is not clear.

Saturday Deluxe: Back to Berlin

Regular / longtime SDE readers may recall that I spent a long weekend in Berlin in 2016 ‘doing’ the various record shops and enjoying some of the cultural aspects of the city including a visit to Hansa Studios.

Well, I’m back in this wonderful city – for a bit – and intend to do the same again, perhaps revisiting some of the haunts to see if a) they are still there and b) see if they are any good. But there’s always new record shops to discover and that is what today’s Saturday Deluxe is about. 

Unlike London, Berlin is still full of weird and wonderful second hand record shops. A few nights ago, I was out for an evening stroll and came across a place called ‘Silver Disc’ which is in Wrangelstraße, north of Görlitzer Park, to the East of Kreuzberg.

It looked quite good and, according to the sign, it specialised in CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays and Games, which seemed refreshing considering vinyl tends to be the dominant format in second-hand record shops. There was even a laserdisc hanging from the ceiling in the shop window (I have a working laserdisc player and collect them). Anyway, I made a mental note to come back the next day.

Which is what I did. The shop was fairly big; done out in typical record shop style with posters on the wall and things hanging from the ceiling. There were quite a few racks of vinyl in the entrance area, which surprised me slightly (they aren’t ‘silver discs’ after all). Someone behind a counter (presumably the owner) was busy tapping into his computer. No acknowledgement or ‘hallo’ (a foreshadowing, as it turned out).

Anyway, I headed towards the CD section about halfway back and spotted a Crowded House promo CD called Full House that I’d never seen before. I noticed there was no price on it, but there looked to be a sticker of some kind and thought maybe I’d missed a sign telling customers that all CDs which such a sticker were ‘X’ price. I kept hold of the CD because I thought I’d probably buy it, assuming the cost was reasonable and it was then, as I headed towards the rear of the establishment, that I saw the sign. It read:

“The CDs on the black racks do not have prices. These are currently determined on the Internet. So please ask at the counter.”

You what? You are expected to browse around without knowing the price of anything? This has an enormously negative impact on the browsing experience. You see things that look interesting but without the reference point of how much they actually cost, it was like all the joy was sucked out of the experience.

Despite this being an unwelcome development, I noticed loads of yellow buckets of vinyl on the floor at the back of the shop. There was quite a few of them and they were all backbreakingly low. Anyway, I made the effort to flick through many of them. It was solid, but unremarkable fare; lots of 80s stuff, maxi singles… that kind of thing. For example, a came across a copy of Curiosity Killed The Cat’s Keep Your Distance, a 12-inch single of Rebecca Storm singing ‘The Show’ which was the theme tune from Central TV’s Stephanie Beacham drama ‘Connie’! You get the idea. I was thinking these were likely to be around maximum €4 each, maybe 3 for €10 – that kind of thing.

To be fair, the selection was peppered with the odd semi-decent item. A spotted a German 12-inch of Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Suburbia’ and put to one side a VG copy of XTC’s Black Sea, along with a Sting 10-inch. But mostly it was all unremarkable.

I asked the guy at the counter how much the vinyl was. With some degree of impatience he told me they “don’t have time” to go through it all and I’d have to bring it up and he’d tell me the price. Okay, so the same as the CDs then…

Despite this ludicrous system, I persevered. I had the Crowded House CD, the Sting 10-inch single and XTC. I’m thinking if it’s in the €20 ballpark, I’m game.

So, I take these items up to the counter and the guy does that thing of ignoring me while he continues tapping away at his computer. There’s no one else in the shop at this point. I’m starting to wonder if he’s seen me, but eventually, he turns to me as I hand over the items. Now I’m expecting him to glance at them, scratch his head and say something like “Call it €18” but no, he picks up XTC and starts to examine it very closely. A few minutes go by and he’s still looking at this vinyl record. Holding it up to the light, inspecting it. He’s now starting to tap in his computer. I’m getting bored and take a photo of the shop; “NO PHOTOS!” the owner says angrily. “Oops, sorry”, I say.

Meanwhile, a local is now waiting at the counter with a few things in hand and like me he’s starting to wonder what’s taking so long. I’m not joking when I say about five minutes has passed and he’s still looking at XTC (we haven’t even got to Sting or Crowded House). I can no longer hold my tongue: “Come on, mate… What’s taking so long?”. He’s irritated: “I need to check… everything in the buckets is premium vinyl” (it really isn’t). He repeats that they “don’t have time” to go through and price the records beforehand. Meanwhile he’s looking at Black Sea like it’s some treasured ancient artefact. “Just tell me how much you are going to charge me!? I feel like I’ve been standing here for half an hour…”

He loses it and scoffs loudly to a colleague, saying something in German, but I can hear the phrase “half an hour!!” in the mix. Suddenly he says: “No, I’m not selling these items to you”. It’s all going pear-shaped… “Your system is ridiculous” I say. “Keeping me waiting around while you decide how much you are going to charge and checking online…”. “FUCK YOU!”  he shouts, “FUCK YOU!”.

Jesus. Obviously, I leave the premises.

I’m not sure how the whole thing deteriorated so quickly, but here’s a proprietor who can’t be bothered to price up his stock when it comes in so customers know what they are expected to pay.  He wants to do that on YOUR time. He’s also a dealer who does not have the skills to look at items and quickly determine a price (even though he must have some idea, because a seller must have been paid at some point). Either that or he’s so desperate not to inadvertantly give anyone a bargain he insists on going on “The Internet” and try and “determine” the price. Probably by looking on eBay at ‘completed’ (but not sold) listings and Discogs.

What’s the point of going into a physical shop with its limited stock if the prices are going to be identical to online, where you can get almost anything?

Needless to say, being told to fuck off is my worst second-hand record shop experience to date. Not sure how it can get any worse, but I’ll keep an open mind. Have you ever had such an experience, or do you know of shops that indulge in these same ‘check the internet’ practises? Leave a comment.

Bronski Beat / Truthdare Doubledare reissue

Bronski Beat’s second album, 1986’s Truthdare Doubledare, is to be reissued in July.

Jimmy Somervile had left and was replaced by John Foster as the band enjoyed another major hit single courtesy of ‘Hit That Perfect Beat’ which was featured in the film Letter to Brezhnev.

The album is remastered and reissued as a 3CD deluxe set which features BBC Sessions, remixes and more, while even the single CD edition still adds five bonus tracks. The LP version is available in purple vinyl and as a store exclusive picture disc and includes one bonus track.

Truthdare Doubledare will be released on 3 July 2026 via London Records.

The Rolling Stones / Foreign Tongues

The Rolling Stones new studio album is called Foreign Tongues and will be released in July.

It contains 14 songs recorded at London’s Metropolis Studios with superstar producer-of-choice, Andrew Watt.

The album features some special guests, including Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, The Cure’s Robert Smith and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Charlie Watts also makes an appearance, captured during one of his final recording sessions. The lead single is ‘In The Stars’ which you can hear below.

In terms of formats, the album is available on CD or as a 2LP set. Both formats also come in box set with a blu-ray audio that features a Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and Hi-Res Stereo Mix of Foreign Tongues. There will undoubtedly be various retail vinyl exclusives. The album’s cover art was created by Nathaniel Mary Quinn.

Foreign Tongues will be released on 10 July 2026, via Polydor. The CD+blu-ray box set edition can be pre-ordered from the SDE shop. There’s actually a CD single for ‘In The Stars’, as well!

The Happy Mondays’ 1990 album Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches will be reissued across multiple formats in August.

The album features the top 5 singles ‘Step On’ and ‘Kinky Afro’ and was the embodiment of the euphoric spirit of the ‘Madchester’ movement with its blend of indie rock, acid house rhythms and funk grooves.

Audio has been remastered “from the Factory Records master tapes” and the reissue comes in the following formats

  • 5LP vinyl with 60-page hardcover book (includes poster & slipmat)
  • 4CD super deluxe with 60-page softcover book
  • 2CD set
  • Numerous single LP versions (coloured/black vinyl, picture disc, ‘Dinked’ edition)
  • Cassette

The 5LP and 4CD versions comprise the remastered album (disc one), Madchester Rave On / Hallelujah Eps (disc two), Baby Bighead Bootleg (Live at Elland Road) (LPs 3 & 4 or CD 3) and finally LP 5 and CD 4 features “classic” and new remixes (nine in total).

The 2CD version offers the remastered album and remixes on the second disc, although this time you get 12 remixes (not nine). Single vinyl LP and cassette is obviously just the remastered album.

The packaging for both big sets looks great with the 5LP and 4CD editions coming in hardcover book editions which slide into a rigid board outer slipcase. The 2CD is more of a standard 6-panel card sleeve affair.

Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches will be released on 21 August 2026, via London Records.

XTC / Live Boots – Official Bootleg to be issued on CD

Following the 2LP vinyl edition for Record Store Day, XTC’s 17 April 1981 gig at Emerald City in New Jersey will be released once again as Live Boots – Official Bootleg but this time as a 2CD set, in June.

Dave Gregory recalls this as “Gig 11 on a 19-date U.S. tour, planned to promote the living daylights out of our Black Sea album, this night was a return to a hot venue we’d previously visited in January 1980 as part of the gruelling Drums & Wires campaign…. XTC at that time was a performing machine capable of creating megawatts of excitement.”

Andy Partridge says: “We were tighter than a firefly’s fundament that night, even more astounding was the adrenaline-soaked speed we took every song at”.

This is apparently the first of a planned series of XTC official bootleg releases which draws from the band’s archives “with minimal audio restoration undertaken” by cutting engineer Jason Mitchell working with Andy Partridge.

Live Boots – Official Bootleg will be issued as a 2CD, set via APE, on 19 June 2026.

Snow Patrol / Eyes Open 20th anniversary

Snow Patrol’s fourth studio album, Eyes Open, is being reissued for its 20th anniversary.

The 2006 album features the transatlantic top 10 single ‘Chasing Cars’, alongside ‘You’re All I Have’, ‘Set the Fire to the Third Bar’ and three other singles.

The 2CD deluxe edition features 8 bonus tracks on the first CD (B-sides and standalone single ‘Signal Fire’) and a selection of live tracks and remixes on the second disc.

The 2LP set is pressed on gold coloured vinyl and offers the 19 tracks on CD 1 across four sides of vinyl. Both formats offer new sleeve notes by Gary Lightbody.

Eyes Open is released on 24 July 2026, via UMR.
