Is the new 5.1 mix any good?


Apple Corps and Universal kindly supplied SDE with super deluxe edition of The BeatlesSgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band a week or so before release date. There’s a lot of content in the six-disc box set, but we couldn’t resist heading first to the 5.1 mix – created by Giles Martin and Sam Okell. Martin had already promised an audience at Abbey Road that the Pepper 5.1 would be “much more immersive” than any of his surround work on the ‘number ones’ video package. Radiohead / OK Computer 3LP blue vinyl

When the reissue was first announced, SDE followed with interest readers’ advice on how to get hold of the ‘indies-only’ blue vinyl edition of the forthcoming 3LP vinyl reissue of Radiohead‘s OK Computer. 

There was some gnashing of teeth as certain retailers over-promised – taking and then cancelling many orders. But if you missed out we have good news: Germany’s JPC are now taking pre-orders.

Review: Adam Ant: Anthems – The Singles tour at the Royal Albert Hall

It’s been a while. The last time I saw Adam Ant ‘live’ on stage was on 4 October 1984 at Central London’s BBC TV Centre. I was in the studio audience for Top Of The Pops (another story, for another day) and he was leaping around miming to Apollo 9, his fourth solo single. I’m not sure too many people would consider that song a highlight in his pop career, but for me it had that special significance, so I’m really glad it was included in the setlist last night as Adam took to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall.
