Universal aren’t hanging around with the scheduling of their Status Quo seven-inch box sets. The 1970s box has only just been issued and the second in the series of The Vinyl Singles Collection, which covers the first part of the eighties (1980-1984) has been announced for release in June.

TREVOR HORN was best known for his work with Frankie Goes To Hollywood and was one of the hottest producers on the planet in 1987, when he and his partner STEPHEN LIPSON drove down to Paul’s studio to work with the ex-Beatle. MITCHELL FROOM was a new producer at the time, who was basking in the success of delivering a US #2 hit for Crowded House (Don’t Dream It’s Over) and CHRIS HUGHES was an experienced and highly respected talent who’d produced (and played drums) on all the Adam and The Ants albums before playing a key role in Tears For Fears‘ mega-selling Songs From The Big Chair (he also co-wrote Everybody Wants To Rule The World).

Well regarded ‘Collected’ compilations to be issued on limited coloured vinyl

Universal Music in the Netherlands have released some great Collected CD compilations in these last few years, summarising the careers of acts as diverse as Robert Palmer, Level 42 and Buddy Holly. Music On Vinyl have already issued some of these on vinyl, but have recently announced a new phase of the series which will include Thin Lizzy, Joe Jackson, UB40, The Moody Blues, 10cc and Marvin Gaye.

Indie Anthems 2LP on the way as labels rush to issue more vinyl ‘anthem’ sets
