Rick Wakeman / Journey to the Centre of the Earth reissue

buy5rick

Rick Wakeman’s Journey To The Centre Of The Earth is being reissued across a number of formats to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The keyboard virtuoso had been attempting to revive this best selling work – which won him an Ivor Novello Award back in the day – for a long time, but with the original conductor’s score apparently lost, that looked like an impossibility. However, back in 2008 the original score was recovered (and repaired), and with the help of the Jules Verne Symphony Orchestra and Choir and British actor Peter Egan, Wakeman recorded a new version of Journey To The Centre Of The Earth at Abbey Road Studios.

#RSD14: Pick up Record Store Day vinyl online at reasonable prices

rsd2

Record Store Day is a great idea we think, but let’s be honest there are many of us who simply cannot get to a record shop on the day itself for any number of reasons, whether they be to do with health issues, geographical location, or family/work commitments.

If you were frustrated not to be able to go along in person on the day, then don’t feel that you have to pay extortionate amounts on eBay to get hold of the item you were after. There is a surprising amount of stock available via Amazon at fairly reasonable prices. Check out our list below of some of the most popular items that are still available to purchase now. With the odd exception (mainly seven-inch box sets) everything is between £10 and £20. Of course, prices may change or items may go out of stock so you may need to move quickly if you have your eye of one of these!

Peter Gabriel: Previously unheard “Sledgehammer” remix on CD

buy5sledge

Don’t know whether to laugh or cry over this one….

Remember I told you about the three-CD Extended 80s compilation earlier this week? I think we were all quite excited that John ‘Tokes’ Potoker’s ‘Dance Mix’ of Peter Gabriel‘s Sledgehammer was finally getting a mainstream CD release. Well, SDE reader Daneil Hunt got in touch via Facebook to point out that if you take a listen to the iTunes preview it is clear that this mix is NOT the actual Dance Mix from the original remix twelve-inch (PGS113) but it appears to be a previously unreleased remix that no one has ever heard!!

#RSD14 / Art of Noise: Live at the End of a Century picture disc

Never got around to showing this video last week before Record Store Day so belatedly, here is what the Art Of Noise Live at the End of a Century 12-inch picture disc looks like. Featured on the record are three live tracks from the 1999 Coachella Festival (namely Out of this World, Born On A Sunday and Moments in Love). For the purposes of this video we have used a small segment of the Radio One Moments in Love live session (as featured on the Who’s Afraid deluxe from 2011).

Perhaps surprisingly, you can buy this picture disc relatively cheaply from Amazon.

Blondie / I Want to Drag You Around

Taken from the new album Ghosts Of Download, I Want To Drag You Around is the rather beguiling new single from Blondie.

Ghosts Of Download is of course featured as part of the new Blondie 4(0) Ever three-disc set that we’ve been keeping you up-to-date with. It will be released on 19 May 2014.
