This Saturday: T. Rex, Pet Shop Boys and David Bowie…
One of the more hotly debated releases this week was Demon’s triple vinyl set of T. Rex remixes. These are remixes created by modern-day remixers. Plenty of you were of the opinion that Marc Bolan would be turning in his grave at such treatment, although I’m not so sure myself. Even Tony Visconti said Marc was always trying to make ‘one more for the kids’ so who’s to say he wouldn’t have given the thumbs up to this album if he was still with us, to show the ‘kids’ of today how cool he once was?

Chris Merrick Hughes talks to SDE about his new album, Eirenic Life
Legendary producer Chris Merrick Hughes made his name working with big name acts such as Adam and the Ants (he produced Kings Of The Wild Frontier, as well as being the drummer!) and Tears For Fears (worked on all three albums issued in the ’80s). In 1994 he issued an electronic/experimental album called Shift and today sees the release of a belated follow-up called Eirenic Life. SDE caught up with Chris a few weeks ago to discuss the new album…

The Great Sausage Roll Swindle
SDE Editor Paul Sinclair reflects on how a day watching music with the family in a public park is engineered by organisers (“Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park”) to extract as much cash as possible from fans.
On Saturday 8 July, I had a day out with the family at British Summer Time Hyde Park which featured The Killers as the headline act, with support from Tears For Fears and Elbow.
Given that this is hosted in a Royal Park in London, we thought it should be a great family day out and planned to bring a picnic while we chilled out in the sun watching the various acts.
With sandwiches made and sausage rolls and crisps packed, just before we left I checked the official website to double check where the entrance was and was stunned to see that the message that “No food or drink is permitted to be brought into BST Hyde Park (with the exception of water in unopened plastic containers of up to 500ml)”
Live: Tears For Fears ‘wake up’ to the love as they return to the London stage

The band were supporting The Killers and played a hour-long set at the BST Hyde Park festival which included tracks from all four albums recorded when both Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith were band members – namely The Hurting, Songs From The Big Chair, The Seeds Of Love and Everybody Loves A Happy Ending.
