Yes / “The Yes Album” CD+Blu-ray

The Yes Album (1971) was the third long-player from prog-rockers Yes and is the second of the band’s records to be remixed and expanded, following on from the 2013 reissue of Close To The Edge.

Like that re-release, The Yes album will be presented as a two-disc set in a vinyl replica gatefold card sleeve (with Japanese-style protective inner sleeves) with a booklet featuring new notes by Sid Smith, and rare photos and archive material. The album has been mixed for 5.1 Surround Sound from the original studio masters by Steven Wilson and is fully approved by Yes.

Soundgarden / Superunknown five-disc super deluxe edition

Soundgarden‘s 1994 album Superunknown will be reissued in June as a lavish super deluxe edition box set.

The grammy-winning record is remastered and becomes part of a five-disc package that takes in b-sides, demos, and rehearsals. The fifth disc is a blu-ray which offers up a hi-res 5.1 surround mix and hi-res stereo audio.

RUSH / ReDISCovered vinyl box

Rush released their self-titled debut in March 1974 and to mark this 40th anniversary, Universal Music will celebrate with a vinyl box set, reissuing the original Moon Records (pre-Mercury) release of Rush, as part of their ‘reDISCovered’ vinyl series.

LZI Deluxe Box — Led Zeppelin Super Deluxe Edition box set

Phase one of the much anticipated Led Zeppelin reissue campaign has just kicked-off with the first three albums slated for a 2 June release date.

Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III will being issued as single CD remasters, two-CD Deluxe Editions, single vinyl LP remasters, and Deluxe Vinyl editions (3LPs for the debut and 2LPs for ‘II’ and ‘III’). The deluxe editions will feature previously unreleased audio on their ‘companion’ discs including ‘rough mixes’ of album tracks and in the case of the first album Led Zeppelin Live at the Olympia.

Blow Monkeys / “She Was Only A Grocer’s Daughter” 2CD track listing

Cherry Red will continue their association with The Blow Monkeys by reissuing the ‘sophisti-pop’ band’s 1987 album She Was Only A Grocer’s Daughter in June.

The 1987 record spawned two UK top 30 singles including the It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way which reached number five in the charts. The band would arguably have added to that tally if the BBC had not banned the Curtis Mayfield collaboration (Celebrate) The Day After You from being played on the radio, deeming it too political (it was issued during the 1987 General Election in the UK).

ABBA’s 40th anniversary celebrations continue with the announcement of a seven-inch vinyl box set, ABBA The Singles, which will be released in May.

The set will contain 40 vinyl singles which were originally released in between 1972–1982. 31 of them are the singles were issued by ABBA’s Swedish record company, Polar Music, with the remaining nine released by local record companies around the world. The hi-res Pure Audio Blu-ray Audio of Nick Drake‘s 1969 debut Five Leaves Left, that has been knocking about on various release schedules for months, has been CANCELLED. SDE understands that this is due to mastering issues but no further details were available.

Boy Meets Girl / Reel Life expanded

Cherry Red Records will reissue an expanded edition of eighties pop band Boy Meets Girl‘s 1988 album Reel Life in April.

The album was the follow up to their 1985 eponymous debut, which had been issued on A&M Records. By the time Reel Life was released (on RCA) the duo of George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam had seen Whitney Houston take two of their songs (How Will I Know and I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)) to the top of the US charts, and had suffered a turbulent period in their personal relationship – much of which is evident in the lyrics to the songs on the album!

Elvis Presley / Elvis 56 (vinyl reissue)

As Elvis compilations go, 1996’s Elvis 56 was one of the better efforts, with its beautiful front cover art and rock-solid track listing. Music On Vinyl this week issue a remastered 180 gram vinyl version of the same, complete with gatefold sleeve, 4-page insert and printed inner sleeves.

Oasis / “Live Forever” acoustic from “Definitely Maybe” reissue

Here’s a preview of an acoustic version of Live Forever, Oasis‘ third single. The original version of the track is of course from Definitely Maybe and this acoustic version will feature on the 3CD edition, super deluxe edition and as part of a digital download on the 2LP vinyl edition.

Definitely Maybe is reissued on 19 May 2014.

Universal Music will issue a two-CD deluxe edition of Big Country‘s second album Steeltown in April.

Cherry Red are to issue the Inspiral Carpets‘ legendary 1989 mail-order only cassette DUNG 4 on CD and vinyl in April 2014.

Issued on the band’s own Cow label, this tape was never issued on vinyl or CD and it contained unique songs as well as versions of tracks which were later re-recorded.

In May, German label Bear Family Records will release a six-disc Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner box set that comes complete with an LP-sized 80-page hardcover book.

Just Between You And Me: The Complete Recordings collects all the duets between the two country music stars between 1967 and 1976. That’s 160 tracks in total featuring many rarities and some live performances.
