This non-official release of the Fab Four’s debut can either be viewed as a naff money-grabbing exercise, or a future collectible. For some reason it’s out on Friday, not Monday. 
Some of the last recordings issued by Nick Cave‘s post punk outfit The Birthday Party are released in this numbered, limited edition triple coloured vinyl set.
Cherry Pop have already issued the well-received Paul Young Remixes and Rarities compilation this summer, and now from the same label comes the Q-Tips studio album. With a slightly flatter haircut, Mr Young fronted this blue eyed soul band in the very early eighties, before going solo in 1982. This has never been issued on CD, and contains five bonus tracks.
More Beatles coloured vinyl, from the same team that are issuing that Love Me Do heart-shaped vinyl mentioned earlier. In The Beginning is basically the Tony Sheridan Hamburg sessions trotted out again, including My Bonnie, the track that it is claimed brought them to the attention of then-retailer and future manager Brian Epstein.
Back in March we revealed that a mammoth reissue of The Waterboys‘ 1988 album Fisherman’s Blues was coming in October. Although a seven-CD set was announced, Uncut are now reporting a six CD box and have also published a full track listing which is detailed below. Don’t worry, although it appears to have ‘lost’ a disc, the track count remains the same at 121, with 85 said to be previously unreleased.

With The Beatles‘ debut single Love Me Do over 50 years old and now out of copyright in the UK, a label called Mischief Music have taken full advantage by issuing this red heart-shaped twelve-inch vinyl.
The record is due for release on 26 July 2013 and has Love Me Do on the A-side, with original B-side P.S. I Love You present and correct. This is said to be limited to 500 copies worldwide.
In 2011 UK musician Cliff Richard successfully campaigned for this copyright period to be extended from 50 to 70 years. The so-called ‘Cliff’s Law’ applies to performers of the music (rather than composers) and is expected to be implemented by EU member states by 2014, thereby protecting music released from 1964 onwards for a further two decades.
Paul Young‘s massively popular debut album No Parlez is 30 years old today.
The record reached number one in the British album chart and featured three singles that reached the top five in the UK top 40, including number one Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home).
As a way of celebration, we are publishing today an exclusive interview with No Parlez producer Laurie Latham about his work with Paul on his debut album, and the follow-up The Secret Of Association. The interview was to have been published in the booklet of Cherry Pop’s Remixes and Rarities compilation, but unfortunately space restrictions meant we could only include an excerpt.

Laurie Latham: Very fond memories. It was just one of those things where you had a look of talented people and it all gelled. It was great.

Warner Bros. Music will reissue a FIVE DISC deluxe edition of Van Morrison‘s classic 1970 album Moondance on 30 September 2013.
As well as a newly remastered version of the album, this set includes three further CDs with multiple takes of the album tracks and a fifth Blu-ray Audio disc that contains the entire remastered album in hi-res stereo and surround sound.
A two-CD expanded edition is also available, with the second disc offering ‘highlights’ of the outtakes available on the deluxe set. At the time of writing only US-pre-orders up on Amazon. We’ll update this post when that changes.

Columbia Records will release Bootleg Series Vol 10: Another Self Portrait (1969-1971) by Bob Dylan on 27 August 2013.
This latest volume of the long-running Bootleg Series includes unreleased recordings, demos and alternate takes drawn mainly from the 1970 studio recording sessions that resulted in Self Portrait and New Morning albums. In total 35 rarities and previously unreleased recordings including a previously unavailable version of Only A Hobo and the demo version of When I Paint My Masterpiece.
Another Self Portrait will be offered in two-disc and four-disc configurations, with the latter taking the form of a deluxe box set, which will include for the first time the complete performance by Bob Dylan and The Band from the Isle of Wight Festival on August 31, 1969. The box set comes in a slip case and will also include the newly remastered version of the 1970 Self Portrait album, in its entirety with original sequencing, in addition to two hardcover books.
A vinyl version will include the 35 tracks from the two-CD set on three LPs plus a 12″ x 12″ booklet. Full track listing is below.

Moby will release a new album at the end of September titled Innocents.
It’s his first record of new material since 2011’s Destroyed. The musician has told his fans that this album was made in his ‘bedroom studio’ and it features a number of guest vocalists and collaborators including Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips and Mark Lanegan from Screaming Trees.
The 12-track album will be issued as a two-CD deluxe set and vinyl. The first official single is A Case For Shame.

The Pet Shop Boys will release a 9-track CD edition of their new single Vocal on 29 July 2013.
The CD comes in a gloss-laminated gatefold wallet, with an inner wallet in vibrant dayglo orange. This is the lead single from their new Stuart Price produced album Electric, and is the first on their new label x2 (working with Kobalt Label Services).
The packaging certainly sounds like a step up from the Parlophone CD singles of the last few years, which have come in a single ‘no frills’ card sleeve. If no other Vocal CD emerges then this could be the first Pet Shop Boys UK single since Surburbia to have no official B-side or non-album track available on CD at the time of release.

As we’ve mentioned in previous posts, Five Miles Out and Crises, Mike Oldfield’s 1982 and 1983 albums for Virgin Records are being reissued on 2 September 2013.
Now that all the details around track listings and formats have come to light, we thought it was worth revisiting exactly what your options are for each title.
Crises is being issued in four formats: two-CD deluxe edition, a single CD remaster, vinyl LP and a three-CD/two-DVD box set (not four-CD/DVD as first suggested).
Box Set
In the box set the first CD contains the remastered album plus Moonlight Shadow (2013 ‘unplugged mix’), Shadow On The Wall (2013 ‘unplugged mix’), Mistake, Crime Of Passion (Extended Version), Jungle Gardenia, Moonlight Shadow (12″ version) and Shadow On The Wall (12″ version). Discs two and three contain twelve tracks as performed live at Wembley Arena on 22nd July 1983 on the Crises tour. Disc four is a DVD which includes Moonlight Shadow from BBC TV’s Top Of The Pops and video of some tracks from the concert mentioned above. The fifth and final disc is a DVD which contains a 5.1 surround sound mix of the Crises album. Full track listing at the end of this post! The box set comes with what looks like a hardback book.

This is a two-CD set, actually discs one and three from the box set, packaged in the usual way.

Simply disc one from the box set and the deluxe edition.

The six-track album remastered.
Things are much simpler with Five Miles Out which is being reissued in three different formats.

A three disc set: two CDs and a DVD. Disc one contains the remastered album plus Waldberg (The Peak) and Five Miles Out (demo). The second CD is eight tracks as performed Live In Cologne in December 1982 on the Five Miles Out tour. The DVD contains the album remixed for 5.1 surround sound. It should be said that this represents excellent value for money.

Backbeat books will publish a deluxe set of their Eric Clapton Day By Day volumes at the end of 2013.
Day By Day, written by author/journalist Marc Roberty, presents Clapton’s professional life in music in a day-by-day format, giving details of which bands he joined and left, all recordings made – both released and unreleased – as well as guest appearances he made on other artists’ records, and concert tours. The first volume (The Early Years 1963-82) has recently been published and this will be followed by a second volume (The Later Years: 1983–2013) in November 2013.
This deluxe set includes both volumes in a special hardcover slipcase.

It’s that time of the month! We’ve been shopping for used records. Here’s what we’ve found…
Picked up this US twelve-inch version of Swing Out Sister‘s Surrender because it contains the Pop Stand Remix (by Justin Strauss and Murray Elias) which wasn’t issued in the UK. In fact it also contains the standard Stuff Gun Mix and the seven-inch version, as well as B-side Who’s To Blame, so all in all, a nice item (if you can forgive the horrendous cover). The Pop Stand Remix runs for 7.05 and didn’t appear on last year’s It’s Better To Travel reissue. It probably should have, to be honest, since it’s rather good, and not one of those ruined-for-the-dancefloor mixes. But we’ve given Swing Out Sister enough advice in the past, so let’s not go there.
The person who previously owned this Bangles CD single, was obviously freaked out by the card sleeve, and got a pair of scissors out and butchered it, forcing it into a jewel case! Despite this travesty, it’s an excellent item. The Bangles 1986 single was reissued in 1990 to coincide with their greatest hits, and this four track collection includes the original Extended Dance Mix, Acappella Mix, and single version of the song as well as the Ozymandias 7″ Remix. Nik Kershaw has today defended his bonus track selection on the forthcoming reissue of his 1984 album The Riddle.
Fans had expressed dismay over the selection which omits a B-side from the era (Progress) and fails to include an extended remix of one of the album tracks (Wild Horses). Both of those issues are addressed specifically, and Nik’s comments can be read below: (link the actual post on his forum here)

Last month Universal Music’s enormous Moody Blues Timeless Flight 17-disc super deluxe box set was released, and like a few recent box sets (Wings Over America, Smashing Pumpkin’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness) it retails at well over £100 (nearer to £200 on amazon UK at the time of writing).

The Manic Street Preachers will release their eleventh studio album, Rewind The Film, on 19 September 2013.
The album is said to be a more reflective offering than recent outings and the band said in a statement: ‘[If] this record has a relation in the Manics back catalogue, it’s probably the sedate coming of age that was This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours.’
The record contains an anti-Thatcher song in 30 Year War, and a single Show Me The Wonder will be issued prior to the release of the album.
A deluxe edition follows the pattern of recent years, by adding a bonus disc containing the entire album as demos, but this time around we also get five further tracks Live At The O2. A SIGNED deluxe 2CD is available from the official Manic Street Preachers Web Store.

The Nilsson RCA Albums Collection is out on 29 July, and we’re delighted to bring you some pictures of this set.
If you are not aware of this release, it’s a 17-CD boxset, that includes all of Harry Nilsson’s original RCA albums (US discography), and three discs of rarities, featuring single-only releases, previously unreleased recordings, demos, radio spots, etc.
The albums have bonus material adding up to 65 tracks, of which 26 are previously unreleased. Exclusive to this box are also three new ‘sessions’ CDs. These contains a total of 58 tracks, half of which are previously unreleased. A full track listing can be found on our news post from May.

A number of titles will be released and each will feature PCM, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio 96kHz/24bit audio tracks. The Rolling Stones’ GRRR! compilation received the same treatment last year.
