Soon it will be Christmas and as the year end approaches everyone starts to consider what their ‘albums of the year’ are.

I can tell you that over the festive period I will be publishing various SDE posts summarising some 2019 highlights, but I have to admit that when it comes to new albums, this year has been a bit of a struggle for me. I see people publishing lists of their ‘top 25’ new albums of 2019 and in true sitcom fashion end up spluttering into my SDE cup of tea. I’m struggling to recall 10 new albums I really liked.

Queens of the Stone Age / vinyl reissues Vinyl

Rated R and Songs For The Deaf were reissued on vinyl in November, but this week Queens of the Stone Age‘s Lullabies to Paralyze and Era Vulgaris albums are released as deluxe vinyl editions. This means the SDE shop four-album bundle will finally ship this week!

Pet Shop Boys announce 2CD special edition of Hotspot and signed prints

The Pet Shop Boys have ramped up the marketing for their forthcoming album Hotspot by announcing a ‘special edition’ two-CD version (and cassette) on their website and incentivising fans with the promise of a ‘hand signed print’ with any format ordered via their shop before Christmas.

Nick Laird-Clowes on his score for Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love

Nick Laird-Clowes is best known for fronting eighties pop band The Dream Academy. In the nineties he co-wrote two songs on Pink Floyd‘s The Division Bell and in recent years has been writing and recording music for films, notably enjoying a fruitful partnership with documentary maker Nick Broomfield.

Broomfield’s most recent film was this year’s acclaimed Marianne & Leonard: Words of Love – about the relationship between Marianne Ihlen and Leonard Cohen – for which Nick Laird-Clowes wrote and performed the music. The full score has been released on vinyl and Nick dropped into SDE last week to discuss this work and to sign a few albums…

Lowest price to date for this box set that was released in the summer. Peter Asher has remastered all six albums:: ‘Sweet Baby James’ (1970), ‘Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon’ (1971), ‘One Man Dog’ (1972), ‘Walking Man’ (1974), ‘Gorilla’ (1975), and ‘In the Pocket’ (1976).

Pink Floyd / The Later Years CD, Vinyl, Box Set, Blu-ray

The massive Pink Floyd Later Years box set is finally released this week. The 18-disc set features five CDs, six blu-rays, five DVDs and two seven-inch singles, as well as a 60-page book and other replica memorabilia.
