After David Bowie‘s creative nadir in the second half of the 1980s, Tin Machine kicked off a over a decade of creativity that took in soundtrack-inspired art rock (Buddha of Suburbia), experimental pop-jazz-funk fusion (Black Tie White Noise), drum and bass (Earthling) and even, a-hem, a ‘non-linear gothic drama hyper-cycle’ (Outside). The wishy-washy Hours (1999) was the exception rather than the rule, underlined by the back-to-back triumph of Heathen (2002) and Reality (2003).

Paul Hardcastle on '19' at 30

Paul Hardcastle‘s classic 1985 single 19 has its 30th birthday this year and to celebrate, the Ivor Novello winning musician and songwriter is issuing a special anniversary album featuring 14 different mixes of the anti-war song, with the proceeds going to charity. Truancy: The Very Best Of..  is a new Pete Townshend compilation (announced on his 70th birthday!) that signals the beginning of an extensive reissue programme. The solo catalogue will be ‘remastered and reworked’ by Universal Music with releases scheduled well into 2016.

Duran Duran / Japanese Rio reissue offers exclusive bonus tracks

SDE reported last week that Duran Duran‘s Rio was being reissued. For diehard fans this seemed a case of ‘nothing to see here’ since the track listing simply repeated the 2009 deluxe edition, but it has become apparent in the last few days that the 2015 Japanese edition of this reissue DOES appear have some exclusive bonus tracks!

Phil Collins / Face Value deluxe edition to be released in 2015

Even I was surprised at the massive response at the news this week that we can expect all of Phil Collins‘ solo albums to be reissued as deluxe editions thanks to a new deal with Warner Music. Almost 100 comments left by your good selves, and apart from the odd naysayer, it was virtually all positive and enthusiastic. We know that Face Value and Both Sides are on the way, but let’s just hope Warners can match your ambition for these titles because you want 5.1 mixes, all the bonus remixes and b-sides and perhaps some demos! 2CD+blu-ray sets were mentioned a few times. So c’mon Warners, let’s not settle for Private Dancer style 2CD sets that have significant holes in the track listing!
